Darkness enveloped him like a cold blanket of oblivion, his ears filled with the painful grunts of someone close by. His arms curled tighter around his head as his eyes screwed shut, feeling a warm body pressed against his own. Kyungsoo whimpered, his ears picking up the sounds of kicking and punching as the body above him seemed to collapse under the blows. Suddenly, the sounds stopped and footsteps receded. The silence was deafening, Kyungsoo could hear his heartbeat pounding in his ears as he slowly peeked an eye open. Both eyes flew open, widening as he looked up into a battered and bruised face. The man smiled, his arms and legs shaking as he kept himself propped up against the wall.

"Ah, Kyungsoo... Are you hurt? Please tell me you're alright." He whispered softly, his bloody lip stretching painfully in a grin.

"I... I'm fine..."

Kyungsoo's voice seemed distant, small and shaky. He barely had the chance to ask the other if needed help, the weight of the man crashing onto him made him cry in surprise.

***

Do Kyungsoo was a hybrid. Half human, half cat. His ears and tail were pure black with white tips, silky smooth and of the highest breed. He was nice and kind, softly spoken with smooth skin and bright eyes. He was the perfect hybrid. He and his siblings, Baekhyun and Jongdae, had been taken from their mother and trained in etiquette, manners and how to speak. Baekhyun was the first to be adopted, by one of their caretakers, a tall, elf-like man named Chanyeol who always snuck them extra fish and grinned too widely when Baekhyun nuzzled up to him. Jongdae was adopted not long after, taken in by a tall and lanky boy called Sehun. Although he seemed like he was one of the slacking type of owners, when Jongdae came around to the centre alone, Kyungsoo found out he was probably the most caring and loving owner ever.

Kyungsoo, himself, had been auctioned off at a party for the richer end of the social ladder. His first owner was the perfect man, kind and gentle, treating him appropriately. He loved him with all his heart, and he knew Minseok loved him just as much. That is, until he met Luhan. The woman was beautiful and just as nice as Minseok (but just slightly more derpy). Unfortunately, Kyungsoo’s life with them ended at Luhan’s first sneeze. Regretfully, Minseok brought him back to the centre and left him for adoption, tears in all their eyes as Minseok and Luhan drove away.

Kyungsoo still had hope, he was still young, still pure. He could still find a good owner. His second owner came on a cold day, when Kyungsoo had been shivering in his pen. He was taken immediately and offered the cat a warm blanket and a cup of warm milk. Kyungsoo smiled, maybe this was his new forever. Yixing was a Chinese teacher, teaching the language to students at the university and at special classes on weekends. He was a good owner, catering to Kyungsoo’s needs, if he remembered. It was with him that Kyungsoo learned how to read and write properly, and he was even taught some Chinese as well. But soon, everything went downhill. Yixing stopped coming home often and the next minute, his visa was revoked and he was put on the first flight back to China. Kyungsoo was snatched away once more and he watched through tears as Yixing was thrown in the back of a taxi, while he was pushed into the back of a truck. He never knew if Yixing ever came back, or where he might be at all.

His third owner came in a flourish one day, all dressed up in expensive clothes and jewellery. Black glasses hid his eyes and his lips were always pulled into a smirk as he caressed Kyungsoo’s hair. Zitao had no hesitation in adopting Kyungsoo, swiping his card and spending his unlimited money like the wind. At first his touch was gentle, thin fingers rubbing his ears. Zitao had a reputation to uphold, the public eye trained on his back and waiting for him to put a toe out of line. It all changed when Kyungsoo stepped foot into the house. Harsh words were spat his way, physical discipline not far away. Zitao broke Kyungsoo to pieces, left him with broken dreams of what perfect life would have been. It took all his courage to escape from the torture and he ran as far away from him as he could.

He lived in the back alleys, scavenging off scraps and fighting off other homeless people for the best shelter under a box or in a huddled corner. For months he survived on his own, learning to trust no one but himself. But one day, a moving truck pulled up in front of the little worn down townhouse at the entrance to his alleyway. The last time he had seen anyone at that house was when some people came to escort the little old lady to a nursing home after a heart attack scare. Since then, the property had been desolate and dark; with no old lady leaving extra scraps out for him every night.

Kyungsoo narrowed his eyes when a young man stepped out, his lips pulled into a wide smile as he surveyed his surroundings and blond hair pulled back neatly with gel. He took extra care in stepping around the old lady's wilting gardenias before squinting into the dark alley that was right next to the house.

"Ya better watch out, sir. There's been a lot of 'em hybrid people living in alleys now, best steer clear o' 'em."

A burly man opened the door of the truck while speaking, his arms straining to pull out boxes of belongings. The younger man tilted his head, a questioning look on his face.

"Why are you warning me? I'm sure they're nice, they're probably just scared..."

"Welp, that's just what I 'ear. If ya want to go hanging with 'em sort, I ain't gonna stop ya."

The man and his workers started to carry the things inside as the younger man moved further into the alley. His eyes squinted as he tried to adjust to the increasingly dark area. Kyungsoo prepared himself, steeled his limbs to attack or bolt if the man made any sudden move towards his box. But the other frowned a little, his lips pulling into a cute pout as he retreated back into the sunlit street. Relaxing in his box, Kyungsoo curled his tail around himself and closed his eyes.

Their first encounter wasn't until a month later, when the man had come home late from work or wherever he goes in the evenings and had rushed to take out his trash before the garbage truck came around. The truck came around the corner just as he dumped the bag into the bin, breathing heavily as he visibly slumped in relief. He had turned to leave when the truck pulled into the alley, its lights beaming into the darkness and illuminating Kyungsoo's bright eyes. The man froze, eyes wide in surprise as he tried to take a closer look at the figure crouched behind the dilapidated box. The man moved closer, taking slow and calculated steps with his hands in front of him like he didn't mean any harm. Kyungsoo's senses said otherwise, he growled and scampered away into the maze of alleyways and leaving behind the man with the pained smile.

After that, Kyungsoo would find little things hidden around the alley. At first it was a pair of thick socks with little paw prints on them. Then a few days after, a thick sweater, a beanie and a new box. Even though Kyungsoo refused to use the items at first, his cat instincts gave in when he saw the box and the term 'if I fit, I sit' became his reality. When the man came around next, Kyungsoo didn't run away. He sat in his new box and watched warily as the man stepped closer, his left hand clutching a bag that smelled of herbs and vegetables. The hybrid wrinkled his nose and hissed when the man stepped into his personal space (5 meters away). Taken aback, the man slowly crouched down and placed what looked like a stack of cans on the concrete.

"I hope you like them..."

Kyungsoo waited for his footsteps to recede and his figure disappear around the corner before he slunk out of his box. He sniffed the cans before picking one up. Canned tuna and salmon. His lips twitched slightly, a smile tugging at the corners before he shook his head and dashed back to his box. Every week, on the same day and at the same time, the same figure would be at the entrance to the alley. The same footsteps would come towards him to place the same amount of cans on the ground with an occasional tray of fresh food. The man didn't say much, he just retreated and had taken to watching Kyungsoo sneak out from the box to retrieve the food.

When Kyungsoo finally met the man at the entrance to the alley one day, he was almost blinded by the bright smile that beamed from the man's face. He didn't do much but Kyungsoo thought the man was satisfied with just giving him the food straight into his hands. Their meetings became more random but Kyungsoo was still cautious of the man, what if his good intentions were to hide his dark side just like Zitao? He didn't allow any touches, anything more than the brush of skin when the man handed him food.

From there, the man started to stay in the alley more and he had set up a little table with chairs so they could dine together. It had been a long time since Kyungsoo was treated like a human. On a particularly nice night when the stars were twinkling in the sky like diamonds on velvet, the warmth of the air was eased by the gentle caress of a light breeze as Kyungsoo sat opposite the man and they dined on a warm, home-cooked meal. The man smiled at him, sipping slowly on his clear glass of water.

"I'm glad you're more comfortable with me. I'm sorry about the sudden change in occupant... My grandmother got really sick and no one has the time to look after her so she called me to come live at her house. She hopes to come back when she's better so she could look after you again." The man placed the glass down with a gentle tap on the wooden tabletop. "I'm sorry, she calls you Precious, but I know that's not your name."

Kyungsoo narrowed his eyes, lapping at the milk in his glass.

"My name... is Kyungsoo."

"Kyungsoo. That is a very nice name." The man extended his hand. "My name is Joonmyeon. It is a pleasure to meet you, at last."

Kyungsoo looked down at his dark hands, stained from the dirt and mud of the streets, then at Joonmyeon's milky white skin. As if he knew, Joonmyeon reached over and took his hands in his own, a gentle smile on his lips as he waited for the hybrid's reaction. Kyungsoo didn't pull his hand away, he just continued to stare at their contrasting skin.

"I was thinking... Since both my grandmother and I like you, perhaps you would consider coming to stay in the house?"

Kyungsoo's eyes widened and he snatched his hands away quickly, eyebrows furrowing as he hissed at Joonmyeon. Standing up hurriedly, he knocked over his chair with a loud crash as he ran back into the safety of the alley.

"Kyungsoo! Wait! I only want to look after you..."

A dejected Joonmyeon sat back down on his seat, looking at the half finished glass of milk on the table. He knew that Kyungsoo has had some sort of bad past, but perhaps he underestimated the situation.

***

Kyungsoo didn't return to the alleyway next to the house, he went back for his box and leftover food but he avoided the area like the plague. Every human was the same, looking down on hybrids and thinking they can't live without owners. He had taken up residence behind a little cafe. There weren't much scraps and he had run out of the canned food Joonmyeon had given him. But Kyungsoo had told himself he can't rely on people so going back to his old place was not a option.

On his thirteenth night at the new place, Kyungsoo was famished and half dead in his box when multiple footsteps thudded his way. With barely any energy to move, he managed to catch sight of someone reaching to grab him.

"Well, well. Look what we have here boys." A rough voice echoed along the walls, hardened skin scraping along Kyungsoo's jaw. "Pretty little thing in the alleys. You know what that means."

There were loud chuckles and the sound of zippers being undone. Kyungsoo whimpered, trying to drag himself up and away from danger. Even with the adrenaline rush from the touch, his body screaming as he tried to yell for help. His voice cracked and at that time of night, he was sure no one else was going to help him anyway.

"P-Please... Someone!"

Too many hands tugged at his ragged clothes, his shirt ripped open to bare his chest to the chilly wind. It was only when hands were pulling at his pants that there was a shout from amongst the sea of legs that surrounded him.

"HEY! GET AWAY FROM HIM!"

There were grunts and the fingers that were wrapped in his hair and clothes were ripped away from him. A hand took his, pulling him up and tugging him along as the person ran. Kyungsoo stumbled along, trying to keep up until his legs collapsed on him. Without another word, he was pressed into the wall and he curled in on himself, waiting for the pain. But they never came. Instead, grunts of pain sounded from somewhere above him and Kyungsoo could only just make out a figure above him.

"J-Just-- close your eyes and cover your ears."

Kyungsoo could see the feet and legs moving to try to kick down the man protecting him. His eyes blurring as he screwed them shut, the tears sliding down his cheeks as he wrapped his arms around his head to cover his ears. The attacks came relentlessly, kick after kick. It seemed like forever before everything went quiet and only the heavy breathing from the man above him could be heard. When Kyungsoo finally peeked an eye open, he was shocked to see the battered and bruised face of Joonmyeon hovering above him.

"J-Joonmyeon? JOONMYEON!"

Kyungsoo's hands fumbled, pulling the man close before looking around. At this time of night, there was no one around. The cafe was closed, every normal human was already asleep or indoors. It was then Kyungsoo felt the phone in Joonmyeon's jacket pocket, his dirty hands pulling the thin electronic out and dialling emergency. When the operator picked up, all Kyungsoo could do was break down.

"P-Please... He's hurt. They hurt him."

"Stay calm and just tell us where you are, sir."

With a shaky voice, he pointed out the address and soon sirens wailed in the distance. When the ambulance arrived, Joonmyeon was lifted onto the stretcher while Kyungsoo was wrapped in a scratchy blanket and bundled in next to him. The van sped towards the hospital and Kyungsoo had never been so fearful of seeing the OPERATING light blink off.

After two hours of checks and surgery, they managed to save Joonmyeon from his three broken ribs, swollen liver and some internal bleeding. When Kyungsoo was let into his room, he was hooked up to machines and was still on the bed. For two days the hybrid stayed next to him, eating only when told to and sleeping only when his body shut down on him.

On the third morning, Kyungsoo stirred to a gentle touch on his cheek. His eyes cracked open to see a bright smile through pipes and wires. The early morning sun peeked through the window and illuminated the other's golden hair, surrounding his head in a glowing halo. Kyungsoo sat up quickly, eyes round and breathing heavy. He rubbed his eyes to make sure he wasn't dreaming before taking Joonmyeon's hand in his own grubby ones.

"Why? Why did you save me?"

"Heh... Like I s-said before..." Joonmyeon eased himself into a sitting position slowly, wincing at the pain. "I really do want to look after you. You're not like other people and grandmother's been a-asking about you."

With that, Kyungsoo fell to his knees, face buried in the hospital blankets as he let the tears soak the sheets. Fingers stroked through his hair and rubbed his ears as he cried.

***

Kyungsoo peeked into the room, ears perked as he spied the lump under the covers. It was still dark outside but it was the weekend, so what he planned to do was harmless. Slinking into the darkness, he nuzzled his way under the blankets and purred softly as his eyes spied boxer shorts. Gently easing them down, a cat-like grin came over his face as he lowered his lips down to wrap around the tip of the limp member. With his hands on the man's thighs, Kyungsoo slowly started to move his head.

After the incident, Joonmyeon had asked Kyungsoo to live with him. With little hesitation, he had agreed and Joonmyeon had given him the home that he had dreamt of. He was thankful of the clothes on his back, the roof over his head and the food that now filled his belly. With the proper care, Kyungsoo's body filled out and his hormones started to react. His heat came in quick and with much begging, Joonmyeon had helped ease him. Since then, they had become closer and sex was a common occurrence.

Joonmyeon woke with a start, a wet warmth engulfing his cock and he squinted at the clock on his bedside table. 5 A.M. Lifting the covers, he groaned when he saw the wide eyes peering up at him, Kyungsoo's sinful lips wrapped around his now hardened cock.

"Shit. Kyungsoo, it's 5 A.M..."

A soft hum was felt through his length, sending a jolt of pleasure through his nerves and his fingers found their way into Kyungsoo's hair, finger and thumb rubbing his ears. His hips started to move, bucking into Kyungsoo's mouth as the hybrid hollowed his cheeks and slid his length deeper until the tip of his cock hit the back of his throat. The tightness and heat made him groan loudly, releasing unexpectedly into Kyungsoo's mouth. The younger pulled away with a sly grin on his lips.

"Thank you for the milk~" He purred softly, leaning to press his lips against Joonmyeon's. "But now I want more~"

"Ah, Kyungsoo. You're going to be the death of me."

Hands found their way to his bottom, groping and squeezing them. Kyungsoo mewled softly, moving to straddle Joonmyeon's hips. Sex with Joonmyeon was different, there was push and pull. It was nothing like his previous owner who wanted complete submission. With equal power, Kyungsoo relished in the fact that he could do things his own way.

Grinding his hips down, he slid his hands up the toned abs of the other as his own cock rubbed Joonmyeon's back to life. Soft fingers moved to palm him through his briefs and Kyungsoo threw his head back, moaning loudly as he dug his fingers into Joonmyeon's shoulders.

"Joonmyeon, please fuck me. Please, I need you."

All he needed was that look, full of fire and lust, and Kyungsoo was scrambling onto his hands and knees with his briefs around his right knee. Fingers gripped onto smooth skin and hot puffs of air brushed against his sensitive skin. Kyungsoo keened when a wet pressure pressed against his hole, his eyes wide as he realized that Joonmyeon's face was buried between his round cheeks. The thick muscle pushed into him, rubbing against his clenching walls and soft slurps rang in Kyungsoo's ears. With his hole stretching with each lick, Kyungsoo's arms shook as he tried to hold back his moans. He was close but he didn't want to come just yet. His tail flicked against Joonmyeon's cheek, trying to tell him to get on with it.

But Joonmyeon had none of it, his free hand grabbing onto the moving appendage and squeezing gently as a warning. Kyungsoo's arms gave out, a soft whimper falling from his lips. His tail was the most sensitive part of his body and when Joonmyeon had found out, there was a glint in his eyes that had the hybrid shrinking away. The squeezes came much more insistent and coupled with the flicks of the other's tongue, it had Kyungsoo's legs trembling as he came hard over Joonmyeon's sheets.

A deep rumble of a chuckle echoed in his ears and Kyungsoo had barely pulled out of his post-orgasm state before he felt the bulbous tip of Joonmyeon's cock press against his clenching hole. Hands gripped onto his hips and with one thrust, the blond man was deep inside him, hardened length stretching Kyungsoo's walls deliciously. He wasted no time, speeding up and thrusting into Kyungsoo's pliant body. Grunts and moans of pleasure bounced off the walls and Kyungsoo could feel himself being pulled towards another bone-rattling orgasm. Joonmyeon's rhythm stuttered, his fingers digging into Kyungsoo's skin before he flipped him over.

Kyungsoo laid on his back, eyes glossy as he blinked up at the other. Lips crashed together, messy and wet, tongues intertwining and teeth clashing. Fingers linked and Joonmyeon held Kyungsoo's hands tight, his hips speeding up in a shaking rhythm. Kyungsoo's moans rose in pitch with each thrust, eyes sliding shut with Joonmyeon's lips pressed against the pulse in his neck. With a particularly hard thrust against his prostate, Kyungsoo screamed Joonmyeon's name as he spurted between their bodies. The other came not long after, face buried in Kyungsoo's neck as he filled the hybrid's body with the thick, warm liquid.

It took awhile for them to come down from their high, Kyungsoo whining softly at the stickiness when Joonmyeon pulled out and away from him. With a soft chuckle, Joonmyeon eased the hybrid into his arms, his muscles bulging as he carried the younger towards the bathroom.

"How about a nice warm bubble bath, hm? Then after, we can have breakfast and go visit grandmother."

Kyungsoo nuzzled his nose along Joonmyeon's jaw with a purr, nodding with a happy grin on his face. His life didn't start out how he planned, nor did it go on the path he had thought about, but in the end it still gave him the happy ending he dreamt about.

And that was all Kyungsoo only ever wanted. His own happily ever after.
