About a month ago when we were close in the division race the sports news radio station I listen to came up with some good commercial things. They invovled former Indians player Jim Thome, his contract ran out at the end of last year and we offered him like $90 million (way more than anyone else on the team gets). He always said how he wanted to remain an Indian and retire in this city, but he turned it down to go play with the Phillies because he wanted a championship ring and he believed with them he could probably get one sooner than with the Indians. The Phillies were like 10 games out and we were only like 1 game out and they had these commercials where at started out as the voice recording thing for the General Manager of the Indians and it said there were like 38 new messages and the first one would go something like: "Hi Mark, this is Jim Thome. That pennant race you're in looks fun and stuff. I'd sure like to come back and play with you guys. Call me." And then there would be a beep and another message would start: "Mark, This is Jim Thome. I miss Cleveland and playing with my old teammates like Omar and.......stuff (cuz there's no more of his old teammates left) Maybe I could help you guys. Call me" It was so funny cuz it sounded just like him, but of course it was fake. What also makes it funny is the fact that he said he wanted to try and get a championship sooner but our team was closer to the playoffs than his. They ran a whole bunch of those that said different things. Recently they've come up with new ones because we are now games games out of first place and our pennent hopes are faded. They start out the same with the message mailbox thing and then it goes something like "Hi Mark, this is Jim Thome. I've changed my mind. I think I'll stay here. I dont want to move my family again and stuff."
