fly by year

twelve of the maids did dance the earth,
giggling about the foolishness of Augustus.
and how only the western pyramids knew of two
thousand and thirteen little forgotten, useless, and vain sacrifices.
time botched with saved light and the death of life insurance
energized and chanced to lit upon wicks carried by the virgins-
flickering as the sleepy ones begged and pleaded for oil to illuminate the groom.

with unholy throbbing loins
only to be mocked

they ran to the dark wailing about betrayal
or some such nonsense
so the maids with lanterns did giggle and chant
forgetting about a vain little sacrifice made in despair
only twelve brides earlier
