From a lunchtime comversation about a pseudo-telescope at an ongoing exhibition of large sculptures: “Our telescope is so awesome that light bends to get into it.”
Wouldn't it be great if that actually worked? If you could actually publish a paper in Rev. Sci. Inst. about “Enhanced Light Collection Efficiency by Awesomeness-Optimised Detectors”? If New Focus sent their sales people around to labs bringing pizza and demonstrating AwesomePlus photodetector modules? Meanwhile Hamamatsu would be selling faster, more awesome detectors for a tenth of the price, but the awesomeness would only be mentioned as an extra column in the datasheet and you'd have to wire up your own amplifier electronics.
I should probably patent this.
