After the MIT/Athena bubble, Danish computing infrastructure seems awfully Windows-centric, but every now and then I get a nice surprise. DR just overhauled their live streaming page to offer plain mp3-over-http feeds as well as the asx files for Windows Media Player they offered previously. Intriguingly, they don't brand this as a “Linux-friendly” move, but rather “VLC-afspilleren kan desuden afvikles på de fleste operativsystemer under Windows, MAC, Linux og andre systemer, som FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD og Solaris osv.” which is remarkably ecumenical for a government-owned broadcaster.
Now I can listen to country/western songs about Volvos (I know just enough Danish to pick out the model numbers and the references to distances). Also, and quite unexpectedly, Danish covers of the Irish Rovers.
