A mark of your station is not just the clothes you wear. A pauper in robes of a noble is still a pauper, a noble in the clothes of a pauper is still a nobleman. Losing a cheap haori does not affect your status as a shinigami captain.

A cape does not make you a better shinigami either, Kamina.

No, it makes you overzealous. Shinigami uniforms are simple for a reason.

"The uniform is specially designed to prevent enemies and the surrounding environment from hindering the Shinigami," I know already. 'm not gonna go out there when fighting for real with my cape. Don't mean I can't keep it.

No, the shinigami uniform is a symbol of your pride. Do not cheapen it, nor should you flaunt it.

You rise above the standards that people expect of shinigami. You are in my squad, you are to excel. Do not be like Omaeda with his wealth flaunted, his position cheapened.

Listen, you say don''t wear it when fighting and training, fine, but it's just a part of me as the shinigami uniform is. It's my pride as the leader of the Dai-Gurren Dan an' I'm not gonna forget them or it just 'cause I'm doing something else. From what I hear, that Omaeda guy's a jackass. But flaunting and pride ain't the same thing. Pride is when you everyone can see what you've worked for without saying anything. Flaunting is when you shove it in people's face.

Whatever you think I'm doing, you're gonna have to deal with it 'cause I'm keeping my cape.
