New Start

I paid off my credit cards last week. It took forever but they are paid off. Zero zip done. This weekend I spend most of my time cleaning my room. I haven't seen the top of my desk since I moved in last year in July. I organized all my investment and bank/credit card statements and put them into 3 ring binders. I threw away a lot of stuff I didn't need and shredded the stuff I didn't want others to see.

I also bought Quicken 2007. Discover Card was great since I use to use Quicken in 2005 (why I stopped I will never know) and Discover Card kept all those transactions and when I synced up they all downloaded then. My biggest problem is my auto loan. I can't get Quicken to work when making payments. I've set up my auto loan several times now and decided to just record the payment and then enter the interest amount as an interest expense. I'm almost tempted to call Chase and see if they can help me. I'm going to sign up for paperless statements so I'll have 7 years of history I can use to update Quicken. I'm hoping to track my expenses better so I can start spending less. I use my Discover Card for everyday purchases and pay it off each month and I need to get that monthly bill to a lot lower amount so I can start saving. I think if I update the Discover Card balance nightly it may have more of an 'ouch I spent too much' factor, which will hopefully curb my spending.

It's nice to have the top of my desk back again. I can even put my laptop on it. I think it enjoys the view up there better than the view when it was sitting on the floor of my bedroom.
