Canon Character & Series: Tifa Lockhart | Final Fantasy VII
In-Game Name: Tifa Lockhart
Age: 23
Gender: Female
Position & Ship: Convoy; Quartermaster
Appearance: Standing at a 5'6" height, Tifa is undeniably what one would call a 'buxom beauty', since she has quite the set of assets. Her curves also lie in her hips, however, that lend to the mysterious air of Oriental beauty and grace she has about her. Tifa's hair is long and straight, the blackest of raven black that frames her oval shaped face and falls just slightly past the small of her back. Her eyes are also unique-- they can appear to be a range of colors from sienna red to burgandy red, depending on what sort of light one sees them in. Toned from her body building as a martial arts fighter, her body has healed most of her battle scars all except for one-- a long, diagonal slash scar on her chest that is a grim reminder of her past.
She is prone to staying in her fighter outfit clothes, since it doubled as her bartender outfit when she was in Tulgim. It is composed of a sleeveless white undershirt, which is covered by a black leather zip up vest. She wears knee length shorts covered by a short black apron-- which is attached to a strange waist cape that billows out behind her. Sturdy black and white shoes finish off her look, and noticeably, she only wears one tear drop earring on her left ear.
Personality: Tifa oftentimes has a gentle and kind expression on her face, and while this is certainly indicative of a big part of her motherly personality, it belies an unbelievable amount of strong willpower, emotional strength, and faith in others. Growing up, the compassion and forgiveness she learned through certain events were qualities central to forming who she is today-- she recognizes the humanity in others and their ability to make mistakes, and does not often judge people prematurely because of this. As a child, she used to long for a knight in shining armor, once asking Cloud to be that knight. But she's realized that she has to depend on herself before she can depend on others, and her independent and unassuming nature shows. She is friendly to everyone meets, and usually does not have much trouble keeping pleasant, if not deeper, relations with those who aren't just passing by in her life. This isn't to say that she is entirely naive; Tifa has a strong sense of justice and righteousness that is easily distinguishes between right and wrong while keeping the middle gray-area ideologies in mind. When she sees that something wrong has been done, or a cause she believes in comes to light, she fights fiercely, a persistent stubbornness within her allowing her to continue on despite great adversity.
For all these things, Tifa is still human, and still has her own faults. She often disregards her own needs in order to accommodate someone else's; she can be almost sacrificial if she's made her mind up. This stubbornness, while one of her strong points, often turns around and becomes a weak point of hers as well, and the two of these qualities-- self-sacrifice and stubbornness-- can be a difficult combination to deal with. She often puts up fronts for people, letting them believe that things will be alright-- when they really won't be. Tifa tries her hardest to remain positive for the people around her, even when she's about to break, partly because she doesn't want people to see her as weak, and partly because she feels as though she has a reputation to live up to-- the reputation of a strong woman that people often turn to in times of crises.
Abilities/Weapons: When she was a child, Tifa was trained in the arts of the Zangan-Ryu by her teacher of the same name. He saw potential in her grace and subtlety, and instilled in her the swift and smooth methods of martial arts. Tifa still keeps that training with her to this day, and packs a very big punch with both her fists and her feet despite her looks. Her reflexes and instincts are also top-notch, allowing her to react quickly and level-headedly in difficult situations.
Tifa has fighting gloves that are specially outfitted with places to insert small mana crystals-- these crystals give her a bigger and stronger punch, as well as allow her to use a small bit of elemental magic. Currrently she only has mana crystals that give her a little bit of Fire and Lightning magic that she sometimes integrates with her hand-to-hand combat.
Outside of the battle, Tifa is undeniably an excellent cook. Almost single-handedly maintaining her own bar in Tulgim has taught her not only the skills to cook food, but also the value of food, the positive effects comfort food can have on anybody, and also the social skills that are sometimes necessary to smooth over bar fights, or calm down a drunk at closing time. She is also a fair piano player. While she isn't as good as she used to be when she was a child, Tifa can still remember some melodies from that time, and plays whenever she gets the chance to.
How well can your character hack?: She can't hack at all! No inclination to.
Weaknesses: When fighting, her small and slim figure may put her at a disadvantage against bigger and bulkier opponents. While she was certainly taught how to fight these kinds of characters and how to use a person's strength against him or her, there are limitations to who she can take on effectively or at all. Also, because of the nature of her martial arts, her fighting requires her to be at close range, even when she has her mana crystals to use magic.
Her guilt over her past actions also has the tendency to creep up on her unexpectedly, and it sometimes causes her to second-guess herself and her decisions. She broods over things more often than one would suspect, though she tries to look happy, confident, and in control of herself for everyone's benefit.
History: Tifa grew up in a town near Tulgim, living the life of a simple school girl in the small community there. Her mother had died when she was young, and shortly after she died, Tifa thought that she would be able to see her again if she ventured across the mountains behind their town. She fell off of the bridge in the mountains, but was saved thanks to a neighborhood boy named Cloud being there. Her father, though, blamed him for leading Tifa to the mountains went he came to look for her.
She was slowly able to get over her mother's death, thanks to her father-- a father's love had been all she'd known as she matured, after all. It was enough for her, and despite his sometimes rough fatherly ways, she started to blossom into a pretty young woman. Tifa had been the popular girl around the area, earning the admiration of many of her fellow classmates for her beauty and kindness. She was the gentle piano player, the sweet girl-next-door.
When she was thirteen, she saw Cloud off on his trip to train to be a SOLDIER for the growing power company SHINRA that researches the use of mana crystals as an energy source for everyday life. SOLDIER was the elite fighting force that SHINRA employed, so he would be gone a while-- he made a final promise with her that he would help her out whenever she was in a pinch before he left their town. After that promise, she hasn't seen him since, though she tried to look for him in the newspapers and ask around about him.
Two years later, she started learning martial arts under a man called Zangan, and 'powerful martial artist' was added onto the list of describing words for Tifa. She also started working for as a tour guide of the mountains that she had tried to cross when she was a child. That same year, several SOLDIERs came to her town to investigate the area as a potential mana crystal mine, and she was the one that guided them through the mountains.
She thought her involvement with those SOLDIER had ended there, but it wasn't so. One night, a sudden freak fire spread over the entire town, burning everything to the ground. As Tifa was running around trying to find her father, she discovered his corpse, stabbed straight through with a SOLDIER sword. Catching sight of a SOLDIER turning away from the fire, and thinking he had been the one to kill her father, she followed after in a rage, trying to attack him with the sword that had been used to kill her father. But it was turned against her, and she was stabbed straight through the chest without even getting a clear look at who the SOLDIER was. She blacked out-- her teacher Zangan found her before she burned to death, and even then it was all he could do to keep her barely alive until he could carry her to the nearest town and get medical help.
Tifa spent some time recovering in the other town. Zangan left her in the care of the hospital, needing to find answers about what happened in their town that horrible night in his own way. When she was finally able to leave, she moved to Garretstown and started a bar and restaurant called 7th Heaven. It would take still more time before Tifa could return to her normal self, but she did. Even so, though, she had lingering desires of revenge against SHINRA, and as a result, she joined AVALANCHE, an anti-SHINRA organization led by her friend Barrett Wallace. Her bar served as AVALANCHE's secret base, and for a while she kept up this double life.
Eventually, though, she was needed out on the field to do reconnaissance and research, and to get connections and allies for AVALANCHE as well. Before she left, Barrett gave her two middling sized mana crystals to use if she ever got in a fight, and it was with some reluctance that she took them. Was it not hypocritical of her, someone in AVALANCHE, to be using such things? But he insisted (self-protection and all), and so she set out, leaving her bar in his care as she got herself hired to work on an airship. She started working on them and ship hopping, working her way up until she was qualified to take a high ranking position on a ship. And not long ago, a new airship called the Convoy started asking around for crew members. Finding her chance, she signed up as the quartermaster there, and has since been traveling around, trying to find allies...but most of all, enjoying herself. Being away from the center of AVALANCHE has gotten her thinking...should she really be in AVALANCHE anymore?

JOSEPH FALLS' MAGNIFICENT BEARD
Third Person Sample: It was...strange, being away from the towns and cities. Back in Garretstown, she catered to everyone and what they wanted. She was always busy day in and day out-- if not having to do with her bar and restaurant, then it had to do with AVALANCHE. Bills, food, customers, rumors, plans, strategies, training...it all melded together until she wasn't quite sure if she had her own life or identity anymore. Of course she was Tifa Lockhart, 7th Heaven's owner and proprietor, and of course she was a member of AVALANCHE-- but those two identities melded together. She was a bar owner to hide the AVALANCHE identity, and she was an AVALANCHE member to protect the bar owner identity. She'd never been able to find someone that was truly just Tifa Lockhart.
Out here, out in the sky, though-- it felt like she could find that identity. She didn't cater to anyone. Here on the Convoy, she was the quartermaster. That was a persona she had carved out for herself, by herself. She had companions here that didn't know of either of her past personalities; they appreciated her for what she was now. It was...freeing. And nerve wracking as well, because all she had known before was to put up appearances, and she could never know how she well she was doing at being 'herself'.
Tifa sighed softly as she stood at the railing, watching the crew members board the ship again as they started to prepare to leave port. She had the job of interviewing the new members in a few minutes, and she was hoping with all her might that nobody from AVALANCHE would be in the group. She didn't want that part of her life to come into this part of her life. She still had to figure out what she was going to do, as far as AVALANCHE went.
Taking a deep breath, she headed to the meeting room where the prospective crew members awaited. Opening the door, she let a smile set itself on her lips, and let her eyes roam the room to look for a familiar face, hoping to find none. "Hi everyone, my name is Tifa."
First Person Sample: Wow, we have a lot of new people this time around, don't we?
[A wry laugh.]
Well, we do need a lot of new people...after that last incident...
[A pause when she realizes she shouldn't really talk about The Last Incident, if she didn't want to scare away the newcomers.]
Anyways, welcome to the Convoy, everyone! My name is Tifa Lockhart, I'm one of your quartermasters. If you have any concerns at all, feel free to come and talk to me, alright? My door is always open for you guys.
