I want to spread the word on where to find the Christmas Carol script online to prepare for auditions. You can go to
www.simplyscripts.com and search "A Christmas Carol" to get audition materials. Although this is not the exact script we will be using, it is close enough for audition purposes.
Auditions are set to begin on the evening of Tuesday, September 6th at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium. Announcements will be made during the first week of school to remind you. Please be prepared to audition as any given character you may be considering for Tuesday, September 6th. Once the cast list is finalized, rehearsals will be held Monday and Tuesday nights from 7:30 to 9:30 and Wednesday nights from 8 to 10.
**THE AUDITION PROCESS** (Explanation for the benefit of those who have never
auditioned--Feel free to skip if this does not apply to you)
For those who do not know, the parts for the drama are decided by open audition. Skim through the script online and familiarize yourself with the characters. Once you decide on which roles you would like to audition for, choose a few different scenes to use as your audition pieces. In the audition, you will be asked to go onstage in front of the other auditionees and perform your chosen excerpt. The audition piece does not have to be a monologue, and you can work with other people, props, etc. However, the most important part of the audition is you. Make sure that you are loud, energetic, and perform as you would if you were playing the character on opening night. Audition pieces do NOT have to be memorized! Mr. Mac will audition by character, for example anyone auditioning for the part of Ebenzer Scrooge will audition at once and the actor will be chosen at the conclusion of those auditions. Next, Mr. Mac will call everyone who is auditioning for another character, and so on. Don't be disheartened if you do not get one of the first few auditioned roles. Definitely audition for the biggest part that you would want because this gives you a chance to put yourself out there, become more comfortable with auditioning, showcase your talent, and show Mr. Mac that you are interested in trying different things. Also, I would advise that you prepare more than one piece for the parts in which you feel most confident. If Mr. Mac is having trouble making a casting decision, he will call certain people back onstage for a "callback." It is usually nice to show your strengths in a different piece, but that is purely your decision. Good luck!
