Oh and also, because I feel like it:
Just so... y'know, if I ever make a passing canon reference at your character, you know who I mean.
Shizumasa-sama:
Before camp: Of course, Shizumasa-sama is the person that Haine practically devotes her life to, which is why, for the first few months she was in camp, she always found a way to bring Shizumasa-sama up in conversation. Which is why, at first, I was hesitant for her to have feelings for Gongji, and why it was such a OHSOVERY gradual thing, and why for a long time she was very conflicted, BUT I DIGRESS.
Quick recap to bring you up to speed if you haven't read the series: when Haine was young (five? six?) she read a picture book called "The Unforgettable Song of the Witch". The story of this book was so gentle and magical that Haine fell in love with it. When she found out that the person who wrote the story was another child that was her age (Shizumasa Touguu), she immediately came to the conclusion that the boy who wrote it must have had a kind and gentle heart, and "fell in love" with him, even though she'd never met him or seen him.
I won't spoil the rest because it really is a cute little story that is told throughout the chapters in little bits and pieces, although I've already spoiled half of Shinshi Doumei Cross just by PLAYING Haine, but ah well.
When she's in her last year of middle school (Grade 9), she vows that she will get into the same school as Shizumasa-sama for high school. Even though the entrance exams are really tough, and even Ushio, her best friend tells Haine that it's impossible for her (Haine's really, really stupid if you hadn't gathered by now), Haine doesn't give up. She studies really hard for months on end, and eventually she does it. She gets into Shizumasa's high school. (A feat that nobody would've thought possible for her.)
This is the sort of devotion that Haine shows towards the people that she loves. She did nearly the impossible for Shizumasa, and she'd be willing to show the same devotion for Gongji as well.
However, no matter what she says, I don't really believe that Haine is truly "in love" with Shizumasa, at least, not at the point in canon that I picked her out from. Why? Because at the point I'd picked her from (end of chapter 9/volume 2, which is, by the way, the furthest that the series had gone at the point I apped her XD), she had based her opinions on Shizumasa before she got to High School on really only two things: the picture book, and that night he found her on the streets when she was in grade 9.
And then, by the end of volume 2, she's really only known him for a couple of months at most, and he hardly says a word to her. Maybe it's just my cynical side talking, but I don't think you can be truly "in love" with a person after that short period of interaction time. What she had, I think, is puppy love. I'm sure that by the end of the series, that puppy love/crush/idolisation will turn into "twuu luv", but not by Chapter 9.
Another point to note is that Shizumasa has really violent mood swings (you find out why later), so one minute he'll say a kind word to Haine, and the next she'll say something that'll set him off and he'll say something abusive to her, or throw the cookies she made for him back in his face, or something equally horrible.
The end of Chapter 9 finishes with the end of school for the year and the begining of the summer holidays (which was, ironically enough, in perfect timing for CFUD |D), and Shizumasa has just gone and done/said the most horrible thing he could ever say to Haine. GONGJI DOESN'T SAY THESE THINGS, RARRR >:E.
Anyyyyway.
Even so, years of devotion to Shizumasa doesn't die easily. Because he's not at camp, it's easier for Haine not to think of him, and to concentrate on getting along with everyone and Gongji. Only a few months ago, if Shizumasa came to came, Haine would've left Gongji for Shizumasa. Maybe not in a heartbeat, but that would've been the end result.
Now? ... She's not so sure what she'd do. This is why I say that anyone ever apping Shizumasa would have to be top notch. Not only because he's a key character for Haine, but also because he'd be a difficult character to play. He has a shady past. He has moodswings. We don't know what makes him tick half the time. He doesn't. talk. a lot.
In short, Shizumasa in camp would = Haine distress. Because really, between Shizumasa and Gongji, now? ... Now, I think she actually loves Gongji more than Shizumasa. For a long while it was totally equal, but Gongji has tipped the scale. However, years of devotion to Shizumasa + the fact that Shizumasa actually lives in Haine's own world/time balances it back out again. So now it's more like love vs. practicality, as opposed to love vs. love. (But Haine is a shoujo heroine, and I think we all know which one shoujo heroines ultimately choose.)
Ushio: AKA, the best friend. Haine has lots of friends in camp, don't get me wrong, but nobody can really replace Ushio. She misses Ushio the most, even more than Shizumasa-sama, because nobody can really replace her. Ushio... Ushio understands Haine like nobody else does. If Ushio were the sort of person, she would probably be completing Haine's sentences, but alas, she's not. This may stem from the fact that Ushio more than likely has a secret girlcrush on Haine that Haine is totally oblivious to, but that's really beside the point.
You just can't replace a best friend like Ushio overnight, or even over months. That sort of friendship comes from a long history of being together and understanding one another, working in harmony with one another. If they're not exactly alike, then they're balancing instead. Ying and yang. They need eachother.
(Okay, I may or may not be drawing some of this from my personal knowledge with my own best friend, but shhh.)
The point is, I believe that Haine's interaction with Ushio would not change between pre-camp, in-camp, or after-camp. No matter what happens or what comes between them, they are still best friends. (Read: I'M BEGGING FOR AN USHIO HERE DDDD:.)
Maguri: At first Haine considered Maguri to be her "rival in love", but things in the storyline have kind of changed since then (which I am not going to reveal for spoilers sake). Haine has a bit of a love-hate relationship with Maguri- one minute they're at eachother's throats, shouting and catfighting, and the next they're having Deep Moments of Revelation with eachother. But in the end, Maguri is a friend more than anything, even if he is a bit impulsive and kind of like the male version of Haine, only gay and a little more rough around the edges. I'm not sure their relationship has extended to anything more than that in canon yet, though I eagerly await it's development :3.
Maguri in camp would be, to say the least, interesting. Canon gay guy who flits from one love to the next? Awesome, aha |D. On the other side, he would be butting heads with Haine for having got into a relationship with someone other than Shizumasa. "What?! I had to FIGHT you for him and now you've GIVEN UP?" Ahahaha.
Maora: Eee, Haine really likes Maora, and I'd consider Maora to be Haine's next closest friend. They're co-conspirators, really. And I... can't really say anything more than that, because Maora's entire character is a spoiler really, so to if you really want to find out the True Nature of Haine's relationship with Maora, you'll have to reeeeeead the seriiiiies |D!
Aaaaaaaaaaand I could go on and on and write up stuff about her siblings and her parents (both sets) and the Gedou and Mailman-san, but the reality is that these are the top four characters that interact with Haine in the series and nobody really caaaaaaaares and nobody is going to read this ANYWAY, soooooooo I'll stop the inane rambling here |D.
Also, I don't claim to be the whiz on Shinshi Doumei Cross canon by ANY stretch of the imagination. If you've read the series, even if it's only up to like, chapter 2 or something, and you disagree with something I've written here, or you think it sounds off or needs an amendment, PLEASE feel free to tell me. (Hell, Hinata-mun does so all the time |D. She's the one I rely on to keep me in check when it comes to getting OOC.)
