M-Day +1

Well, I'm there, in my new flat. Finally. Slept there for the first time last night. Actually "slept" is probably the wrong word as a day full of humping boxes of stuff up the stairs and hoiking mattresses around, combined with yesterday's stifling heat, meant I was dozing more than anything else. Doubtless tonight will be better.

A total of 720 CDs are now shelved in the lounge - all my Jerry Goldsmith scores plus a selection of other composers' albums. The remaining CDs will be kept archived (ie not taken out of the boxes) if they're good enough, or disposed of via the Internet if they're actually rubbish that I shouldn't have bought in the first place. Some of them are quite rare so I should make a little coin on them.

What I still have to do is wade through the small stuff - accumulated bank statements, phone bills, tax code notifications and the like. I'll probably keep anything that's less than, say, 18 months old and shred the rest. Receipts from Amazon and Djangos can surely go, with expired warranty papers for computers and CD players. Why do I keep this stuff? If nothing else this move is providing an object lesson against hoarding meaningless stuff.

And I've still got boxes of CDs, DVDs and ancient VHS ex-rental tapes that I bought decades ago and have never bothered to get rid of. Even Cash Converters don't take video tapes any more! If I can't get rid of them on eBay at £1 a title they'll just be thrown out.

Tomorrow I get my new LCD digital telly and a kitchen table and chairs. The adventure is not yet over.
