Name: Sheila
Age: 22
If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?
I would make sure everyone was literate and had access to all the books they wanted.
Who is your favorite Hogwarts teacher?
Professor Lupin. He was flawed, but fair, and taught the students more practical skills than the other classes, in my opinion.
Who is your favorite character in Harry Potter?
Hermione Granger, although I know that's a popular (slash cliche) choice. She has integrity, she's brilliant, and she's as neurotic about school as I am.
Who is your least favorite character in Harry Potter?
Rita Skeeter. She never helps anyone but herself and she's willing to do anything to get ahead. Anyone with that little moral compass really shouldn't have the power to shapeshift -- it's too dangerous.
What makes a person respectable?
There's no one thing, but a common respect for other people is a good start. From there, you can go on to helping those less fortunate than yourself.
What is your take on religion?
There is a God, or something like it, that created the universe, but I think beyond that we're on our own.
What do you think about house elves?
They should have more freedom to choose their own destinies, but most of them sincerely seem to be attached to their jobs. Taking those jobs away is cruel, if they want to do the work. On the other hand, they've never known freedom, and it's culturally forbidden, so it's hard to say, because you could certainly analogize them to slaves who wanted to continue working for their owners before and even after the Civil War -- it was only because they didn't know anything else and had no opportunities to do anything else with their lives.
What do you look for in a friend?
Loyalty, humor, and common interests. If you can't make me laugh (or laugh at my jokes), you're no good to me as a friend.
Would you rather have friends and family or money and success?
Friends and family, absolutely. What good is money or career if you don't have people in your life who you love and who love you? Being lonely is the worst feeling in the world.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I would increase my will power -- if I had more discipline and more self-control, I could accomplish so much more, personally and professionally, and be a happier person as a result.
What do you feel is your best quality?
My wit. It wins people over where my initial impression does not. Also I stick by my friends, no matter what (through unwed motherdom, papers they needed help with, college and post-college applications, and most everything else I could help them with).
What are your hobbies?
Knitting, reading mysteries and children's literature (NOT picture books, people), and watching a hell of a lot of television 24/7.
Do you want to have children?
Yes, at least 2. Two is a good number. They can amuse each other, and no one gets forgotten (as might happen with 3 kids).
Have or would you give time and money to a charity?
I have and would. Generally I prefer to give money, when I have it, because I feel my time, at this point in my life, is better spent in school, so I can better myself and then contribute to society in a meaningful way (by putting bad guys in jail for a long, long time).
If your friend was attacked (by a person, animal, or (in the magic world) beast), what would you do?
I would try to help, if I thought I would be useful (i.e. if I was stronger/taller/better or if the attacker was something I knew how to fight) or I would get help as quickly as possible. Although when that happened to me in real life, I was very ineffective, although I did try to help, and I really only ended up getting hurt myself.
What is the one thing you would most like to accomplish?
I want to fall in love (and get married and have a family, but that's more than one thing, and I don't know if you count them as one). Being a part of a family is definitely the most important thing to me.
Who is your role model?
My mother -- she's been successful in her field and she's raised us really well. I wish she wasn't such a nag, but I understand that she worries because she loves us so much. I aspire to love my family as much as her, perhaps without being as annoying about it and being a little less forgiving and guilt-inducing.
What trait most annoys you about other people?
Unmerited arrogance. If you're awesome and you know it, clap your hands, but if you only think you're awesome, and it's clear that you're not, then god, just shut up already.
What do you want to do for a living?
Be a lawyer and put bad guys in jail forever -- especially really bad guys, like child molesters, rapists, and murderers.
Would you ever use an Unforgivable Curse for any reason?
No. I tried to think of a situation in which those curses would be merited, but in any situation where you need to kill someone, you can do it without a curse. The other two are even worse, in my opinion, especially the imperio curse. Completeley controlling someone is totally unethical, no matter how you spin it. There's no argument for the greater good in the case of the imperio curse.
What house do you think DOESN'T fit you? (This question is optional for those who feel they just DO NOT fit in a house. Please explain WHY.)
I don't think I would fit into Slytherin -- my ethical beliefs and their ethical beliefs just seem incompatible. There are some things for which there are no justifications. I think most of them would do anything to get where they want to go.
What do you think are your top five abilities or qualities?
intelligence, humor, loyalty, zeal, and analytical thinking.
