Where do people get the idea that minis are reliable from??
I picked mine up yday. We got there about 8:45... got home gone 12:30. And it wasn't that far away :P
H intended to drive it part way home (he loves it, i can tell... he also had fun driving my lil Citroen ¬_¬)... and we pulled out onto some A road... A46 i think? And he pulled into the side of the road (in a really inconvenient place). He stopped the engine. Can't even remember why now. He said something about smelling oil or something, and hearing clunking. Anyway, he went back to the mini and after like five minutes of nothingness, came back to me in my Citroen to ask "how do i get it started?" So i laughed my head off for a while :P But then. Jeez. I tried to start it myself. No. It was having NONE of it. Sooo, we tried lots.
The battery connections were very very lose. Wonder it got started in the first place. So, we got a knife to use as a screwdriver from a pub up the road (i'd frustratingly taken EVERYTHING, including all tools, out of my Citroen earlier, intending to transfer it all to the mini when i got it home), and tightened the connections as much as possible. But, that was when it was also concluded that the battery was flat anyway. So, we thought we'd try and push it and get it started. H pushed it :P And i tried to get it going. That didn't work. We got about a quarter of a mile down the road - don't forget this is a busy A road, and also darkness was falling... - before we gave up on that idea.
I ended up calling mum out, so she could bring my toolkit and maybe offer some insight. By this time, it was pitch black. We waited in the pub for her. She turned up... with Steve in tow. Fucking great. He wasn't happy, apparently, about how i went buying this car anyway. And, well, i'd just rather he wasn't there anyway. So, well, we tried some more stuff with the mini and still no luck. So i had to call out the RAC.
Whilst the RAC man was doing hsi thing, i was sat in the Citroen (it was freezing outside), and fecking Steve comes over to give me grief. Which really wound me up. I didn't yell at him or insult him or anything, but i've never spoken to him like i did last night. But really what did he expect? All he was doing was rubbing salt into the wound. What did he think he'd actually achieve? I was already stranded with a car i'd paid a lot of money for that wouldn't start. I really didn't need him on my back. Idiot. So, i'm going to avoid him for a while.
The RAC man found loads of things wrong with the mini, and temporarily fixed them. It still wouldn't go... so the RAC man suggested we're out of fuel. Sooo, we all jumped into mum's car and drove off down to the motorway services to fill up the container the RAC guy had given us. That worked, and it FINALLY started. However. The guy i bought it off of said that it had a third of a tank of petrol in it. So how the hell did it run out? Also, as we were driving to bristol, i was driving behind H in the mini, and he gestured for me to drive up alongside him, and he told me that he was out of fuel again. Sooo, sounds like there's something wrong with the fuel pipes too.
When we got the Bristol, i decided to actually leave the mini outside the gates of the local garage, just incase we couldn't get it started again in the morning to get to the garage. We got there this morning at 9:30 and told him what went wrong, what we think it wrong with it, and also showed him the form with the details on that the RAC man gave us. Quite an impressive list of things to be checked was compiled. So, it's gonna be checked on Monday, and the mechianic will phone with the price. I'm a little bit scared about that bit :P
But really, i kind of don't mind. It's kind of fun. Expensive fun though. But whatever. I think stupid Steve was more pissed off than i was. H and i were in good enough moods, despite the situation, until Steve came and dragged us down. Well, he dragged me down anyway. I ahte it when people get all stressy in such situations. It doesn't help in the slightest. Luckily H isn't one of those people hah.
And, the icing on the cake... is that i was meant to be picking Sam up at 8:30 to go to Nicola's hosue party. I didn't even ahve my phone on me to contact either of them. Sooo... that didn't happen. Luckily mum brought my phone with her so i could explain my elusiveness... few hours too late, but better late than never eh.
Soo, that's my adventure from last night. Certainly won't forget it for a while...
