Great New Year's. We parked just off campus and walked for a few minutes through bone dead fields and dorms to get to my old room where the party was. There were thirty people in this particular square mile and they were all drunk in one room. Inside the door to the building, there was a distinct roar some distance away. We walked down a kinked hallway to the fifteenth room and the noise got steadily louder until we were in the room and nearly everyone was shouting at each other from pure delirium. The swim team is the most spirited bunch of drinkers I know. It was amazing to experience such a concentration of party.
Went to J's the next day for a party with Burgers. We were both hungover from steins, goldschlager, and mushrooms. We ended up buying some sticks from a guy in there peddling his wares. His smoke was
El Premier Mundo, and we got one each of the maduro, connecticut shade and the new rosado. We both lit up a maduro feeling an extra volley of aged, hand-rolled gitty-up was just what we needed. There were bins full of hot dogs and kids from high school talking about south park.
I answered a craigslist ad for some help clearing a backyard in Lawrenceville. I was fucking happy to find something like this to do today. Chopped about a dozen 20-foot maples that were still somewhat green. Came home after that and decided to cut off the end of the rosado in my humidor, crush and roll up the tobacco into a cigarette to create something powerful. I think I pulled on it three times total. The aroma was amazing. With cigars, there is so much leaf being burned at once that some is inevitably toasted and this flavors the smoke very harshly. With these cigarettes, you can pull out every type of tobacco by smell alone, and can generally pick up every subtle detail about the blend. This particular rosado blend had that typical bold nicaraguan leaf mixed with a very green kind of filler. I was amazed at how well I can savor the smoke. If I let this stick age another six months, the filler will have mellowed and smoother, while the stronger wrapper would have likewise mellowed and married with the filler. This destroys what makes a nicaraguan cigar what it is--that power in the smoke. MX2s aged for even one month are markedly emasculated.
