The Thanksgiving Challenge.
Hey my name is Sarah Parrish and I live in Reno, Nevada. I am currently a senior enrolled in Robert McQueen High School. That introduction will probably sound silly to some of the people I am sending this to, but it intended to be passed on.
I have observed over the years that Thanksgiving has lost most, if not all, of its original meaning. My family is no exception, we have even been served dinner on T.V. trays as the boys have watched football. It makes me not even want to celebrate the holidays at all if they aren’t dealt the slightest bit of justice. Lets face it Thanksgiving has become more about eating all the food we can stomach, and skipping the giving of thanks.
So, I am issuing the people of America a challenge. A 24-hour fast before the traditional Thanksgiving dinner. For example: My family usually has Thanksgiving dinner around 3 p.m. So on Wednesday at 3 p.m. I will withhold myself from food for 24 hours. I am asking you to do the same, withhold yourself from food 24 hours before your Thanksgiving dinner.
What’s the point you might ask? Well, I believe that if you do not eat for 24 hours you will be able to put yourself into the shoes of someone who might not be able to afford to eat. There are so many people these days that don’t have food, shelter, or family. I believe that when you sit down to your thanksgiving dinner, a bit tired and hungry from fasting, you will truly have more appreciation for the fact that you are able to have food when you want it, and enjoy it with people who care about you.
I don’t expect everyone to accept my challenge, however, if you do decide you would like to be a part of a new tradition, please leave a comment on my journal and I will be sure to contact you after thanksgiving for questioning for an articel I will be writing based on this research! THANKS! and tell your friends to look at this entry and do it to!
Please consider my challenge, and have a safe and wonderful holiday season.
