rambleroo

So, I've been working on checking out some of the artists playing Bonnaroo and I feel like rambling so ...

My Morning Jacket - I only knew one song of theirs so I downloaded a bunch more, and I like the sound a lot. I've only listened to a few songs so far but I like them and I really like the lead singer's voice. With any luck I'll be able to check their show out, but they're scheduled for Friday and there's quite a few shows I want to see on Friday so I'll have to hope for good luck with the schedule.

The Raconteurs - I'm not a White Stripes fan but something told me the Raconteurs might be more my style, so I downloaded a bit. I definitely do enjoy it more than the Stripes, but I'll have to listen more before I really get a feeling for it. Another Friday show...scheduling is gonna be rough.

Death Cab For Cutie - LOVE. I really didn't know any of their stuff before but I've really been getting into it and I definitely want to see their show. They're playing Sunday which seems a little less crowded for me personally.

Iron & Wine - I've downloaded some stuff but only got around to listening to a couple songs so far...but I think I like them more than I thought I did. A Saturday show, which is also a bit crowded, so the schedule will really determine whether or not I see them.

The Swell Season - LOVE. Shortly before the lineup came out, I read a review of Once that said I would like it as much as I like Damien Rice, so I told Andrew we needed to watch it. Then they showed up on the Bonnaroo lineup and people on the boards compared them to Damien too so I doubly knew. We watched the movie and loved it and I've been loving the soundtrack too. Really excited for this show. They're one of the Friday shows I want to see.

Gogol Bordello - Yay! So much fun. After hearing so many good things about the group and about last year's set, I knew I needed to see them this year. What's not to love about Ukrainian gypsy punk? They're a Saturday show and we won't be missing them!

Broken Social Scene - I think this band's name gave me the wrong idea. Just based on the name I never thought I'd especially like them, but I've heard good things about them and I like the few songs I've listened to. I need to listen to more because I suspect I'll end up really liking them. A Sunday show, so I shouldn't have a problem making that set.

Rilo Kiley - I had some of their stuff downloaded before the lineup was released and already liked it, and I've been getting more excited about it now that I know I'll be seeing them. I also really like the Postal Service, which includes Ben from Death Cab and Jenny from Rilo, so I'm hoping there might be some guest action at Roo. Rilo's another one of those Friday shows.

Ozomatli - Another one in the "so fun!" category. I only knew one of their songs before but I loved it so much that I was excited to see they were playing Roo. I've been checking out more since then and I like it all, this should be a great show. Another Friday one...eek.

!!! - LOVE! Back when I was only guessing they'd be at Roo, Andrew told me he thought I'd like them so when they made the lineup I started checking them out and I really do love them. I'm sort of addicted to the song "Must Be The Moon." Nobody knows when they're playing so...I hope it's not Friday! I think they'd be great Thursday late night, but I'd also love to see Battles then so I hope they don't conflict.

The Fiery Furnaces - More fun music! I need to listen to more of their stuff to get a good feeling, because the handful of songs I've listened to seem very different from one another. We don't know when this show is either, so hopefully I'll be able to see it.

Minus the Bear - Another one Andrew said I would like, so of course he was right. I want to listen to more of them, but so far I like what I hear. Another of those pesky Friday shows.

State Radio - I just listened to them for the first time today but they're pretty good. They've got a Thursday show which is exactly where I'd like to put them, so I'd like to check them out at least for a bit.

Battles - Hmmm. I love the song "Atlas" so much that I was psyched to see them on the lineup, but the other stuff I've checked out doesn't thrill me as much. I guess it'll depend on the schedule, they're playing Thursday and I'm thinking they'll be late night so I'll probably check them out for a little while at least.

Vampire Weekend - LOVE! Now I just wish the entire world would stop talking about them so I could enjoy them in peace. But they are super fun happy music and I can't wait for their show. They've got a Thursday show which is not ideal in my opinion. Unless maybe the music is starting earlier this year. I want to see them on Which Stage in the sun because they are just happy and not a band that needs to play at night.

Newton Faulkner - I heard this guy compared to some people I like when he got added, so I've been paying attention whenever I hear anything about him. And today I finally got around to listening to some of his stuff and I really like it! He's got a Thursday show which should be awesome. I'd love to see him in That Tent, I think.

Woo, that's everybody I've sort of discovered lately! Let's see how the schedules are shaping up, shall we?

Thursday - 4 shows I'd like to see. Last year I only really saw 2, but if I wasn't spending two shows' worth of time at the comedy tent I could definitely manage 4 as long as nothing conflicts horribly. Might have to jump around if it does.

Friday - 6 shows I'd like to see, and quite a few of those are high up on my list. I think 5 is about the most I could manage without missing anything, so this day will be busy. I'll definitely have to jump around and if the schedule isn't nice to me I may have to skip something.

Saturday - 5 shows I'm kind of interested in, but only a couple of those are must-sees. I'll also end up at Pearl Jam's show for at least some of the time. If the schedule likes me then this day could work out fine, so hopefully they don't screw me over.

Sunday - 3 shows I'd like to see so far. Plus I'll probably end up seeing Robert Plant and Alison Krauss. This seems like a fairly easy day compared to the others, which is nice for the last day since I'll be exhausted.

Not yet announced - 2 shows I'd like to see that aren't announced yet. I'm hoping !!! gets a Thursday late night spot and Fiery Furnaces get an early spot on Sunday.
