Last night went to see my sister in law perform with
Imperial Opa. I wasn't certain what to expect from a local circus, but had a blast. Live musicians were excellent, playing Django Reinhardt-inspired originals, the dancers (from a local hip hop troupe) were phenomenal, a good time was had by all. The only sad thing was how few people were in attendance, and the performance space of the grubby school turned arts center, The Arts Exchange. This was a good show put together by some talented people really trying to make something happen.
In another nearby room, there was an interesting art installation called 'The Relics of Marriage, which consisted of old wedding dresses hung high on rafters, with video of the same dresses hung over train tressels, and the sound of oddly blowing wind. It was unsettling, very interesting!
Highly recommended, and kid-friendly. The music alone was worth the entrance price. Come by and support the local arts community!
