Mrs. Dumbass reports

Ray has posted about my boo-boo.  Stupid me.  I need to get it through my head to plan something of a takeout nature for dinner if I also plan to spend the previous five or so hours in the garden, weeding and trimming trees and such.
On the other hand (so to speak - ouch!), we have the customary five garbage cans of debris ready to be hauled away Thursday, and it looks beautiful out there!  And my thumb is much better already.  Most of the discomfort is due to bruising I caused by putting so much pressure on it to stop the bleeding.  It'll be fine.

Gotta share some pics, naturally.  This one is of a pot I planted store-bought marigolds in.  Everything else in it sprouted accidentally from seeds from last years' plants.  Happy accident!

In there is a balsam (the thing that's blooming), a four-o'clock, and a hyssop.  The hyssop is a perennial in these parts.  I'll save some seeds from the balsam, and try to overwinter the four o'clock indoors.  They kinda go dormant, but the next year they come alive all over again.

The other picture I want to share is a closeup of little bluestem grass.  I adore the diversity of color in there!  It's one of those plants which reward me for weeding near them:

I'm listening to Nelly McKay's most recent album out in the greenhouse.  It's a tribute to Doris Day.  The interpretations are straightforward.  The instrumentation is exquisite - I have to research it.

Ray also wrote about the film we watched last night (Millenium Actress).  Incredible.  Now I want to research the eras of Japanese history it references.  Without knowing them, I'm sure some of the movie is lost on me.
