Hat-tip to
Elbiesee.
I am so amazed and glad not to be hung over this morning. Wait, I know that sounds really bad, but yesterday was a doozy. I posted about all the physical work I did. Then Em came home from school. Girlfriend is just a seething mass of emotions these days, because she's finishing high school and going on to college and one of her best friends has turned on her and all kinds of stuff. So I was starting dinner, I think Ray was napping, and Em came out and asked me to take her to the grocery store. Yeah, like, the one I work at. On my day off. I asked rather forcefully why it had to be today and she explained that Ray had only just given her the food allowance she gets every week. I asked her to wait until Ray got up and ask him. I explained that most people don't enjoy going to their place of work on their day off, even if that place is as nice as Wegmans.
When Ray woke up, he said essentially no, so I said okay, I'll go with you. She needs to drive to get practice, so I only needed to ride and I was taking my knitting so I'd have something to do while she shopped. Ray got offended that I was going with her, and the three of us hashed it out for a few minutes in the kitchen. Misunderstandings got cleared up, apologies were made, but it was exhausting. I went on with making dinner; they went to the store. When they came home, we all ate dinner while watching the movie Juno together. Which is funny and sweet and deals with families and it felt like more of the same of what we'd been going through, although not quite the same.
Just as dusk was falling, after the main movie was over, Em and I saw our neighbor's cat blazing across the street with a screaming baby rabbit in his mouth. Sushi is huge, beautiful, with the most fabulous thick coat, mackerel markings and white accents. I know outside cats do these things, but it's different when you witness it happening. Em saw the mother bunny across the street, and she and I went out to see if there was anything we could do. Sushi, meanwhile, had dropped the baby in the grass at the edge of our sidewalk. I called to Ray to bring a towel so I wouldn't touch the little one directly. I picked it up, took it across the street, and set it down in the yard there. Momma rabbit ran around to one side of the house, the baby went to the other, and as of this morning, Emily thinks she saw the two of them hanging out together. Phew. I hope so.
Wow, what a roller coaster of a day!
And some where in the midst of the late afternoon, the male oriole which has nested near us showed up again! It landed on the holder for my hummingbird feeder, from which I'd removed the oriole feeders, because I hadn't seen any activity there in ages.
Jeepers!
