One of my favorite couples came by Saturday. They are the young folks, who when we last met up were awaiting their latest baby. You may remember I gave them a big bottle of laundry detergent during one promo. Saturday when they stopped they showed off the new little one: Meghan Leona. Sweet people.
I had two IMMDs Monday (It Made My Day). The first occurred after I'd stopped at my favorite Asian grocery store, the Hoowah. As I pulled into the exit lane to get onto the street a van pulled up to my left. Something about the way the driver was handling the vehicle said, "Give this person room". So I did, yet the van stopped and pulled in behind me, then over to my right. As we all waited for the light to turn green, the driver said something to me through her window. We each lowered our windows and she repeated it: "Did I cut you off? I'm so sorry!" I assured her she hadn't, although I'd initially expected her to, from what I observed of her driving habits (I didn't say that). I thought it was incredibly sweet of her to apologize for something she didn't do!
The second IMMD was that I found cilantro in the Indian supermarket, just up the road from the Asian supermarket. For a quarter of the price it is at Weg's. Even though it's a smaller bunch, that's okay because the stuff spoils quickly, and a little goes a long way. What's especially sweet about this is that I'd been to the Asian supermarket, then Wegman's, and hadn't found any cilantro. I'd pretty much decided to go without, even though it's an amazing herb and adds a lot to any dish it's in. And I had in mind a dish it was essential to, which I would have decided against if my luck hadn't turned.
I am soooo glad I got out yesterday and did some serious weeding. Got all the way around the bed with the mulberry tree in it. It's one of the beds I can see from the living room, so it makes me feel good that it's neat and tidy. Didn't get it all mulched, but I can do that standing up so the fact that it's turned windy and rainy won't stop me from doing it. Wouldn't want to be crawling around on the ground today.
I also got one of Em's curtains done except for the hem. That feels good to have accomplished, too.
During my days off I learned to make spring rolls. As opposed to egg rolls, which are fried, spring rolls are lighter and just as yummy. I filled mine with shredded carrots, bean sprouts, bean thread vermicelli, shredded egg, green onions, shallots, and seaweed. I've been trying to find something I can take to work for lunch, which tastes good enough to make me pass by the takeout stuff which is expensive and not necessarily good for you: very oily.
Em has learned to make Crab Rangoon. It's not in the least dietetic, but hers is way cheaper than takeout, and she's developing skills, for Pete's sake. Looking up a recipe online, pulling out and preparing ingredients. Modifying the mixture to go with what we have in the house. Recording the recipe on my computer in the file I use for that purpose. All in all that's a good thing.
Ray has put up with eating leftovers two nights in a row, for which I'm grateful. I get tired of throwing food away because it doesn't get eaten, and if I do say so myself my leftovers are darn good!
