Emily and I were catching up with each other via phone yesterday, and she described dealing with her roommates' food storage issues. When they returned from Thanksgiving break, Emily announced they were going to play a game her mom calls "guess the carcass". Meaning they pull things out of the fridge, and if it can't be identified as a type of food, it goes in the trash. Then there's the problem of how to store the new food. L forgets what she's bought for herself, so she needs a particular part of the fridge allotted to her stuff. M evidently gets a little distracted when she nears the end of a container of something, with the result that Emily went into a cupboard the other day and pulled out, in addition to two or three fairly full bags of potatoes, about four bags, each empty except for one lonely spud.
I got such a kick out of this conversation. It's wonderful and funny to hear Em growing this way, assuming responsibility.
