Got the new register installed in the kitchen. What a rough experience that was. It order for it to lie flush against the wall, it had to be cut off at the bottom. Half an inch of fairly thick enameled sheet metal had to be cut off. I tried using my bench vise and a hacksaw, but it was no go. Too flimsy over all, even though it's quite rigid along the edge, where it's bent. So tinsnips it was, except that I lack the hand strength to power those suckers through, so I had to "improvisize", as Ray and I like to say. Partially closing the tinsnips on the area I needed to cut, I then laid the whole shebang down on the kitchen island on a nest of towels, so as not to mar the top of the island, and hit the handles of the tinsnips until they shut and cut the metal. Repeated this procedure oh, about twenty-five times, before the piece was all off. Then I discovered the darn thing wouldn't fit inside the duct work with room for the lever which opens and shuts the louvers. I consulted with Ray, who agreed we didn't need it - the old one didn't have that feature anyway - and he helped me cut it off. Success. Wow, does it look cleaner and neater!
Ebony's definitely having a bad day with her arthritis. She fidgeted and fussed all night, then limped out to the kitchen and wouldn't eat her breakfast. When I got up, I cooked some rice for her, using homemade chicken stock for added flavor, and she's been eating that. Poor baby, I know how medication can screw up your stomach! It's a relief to see her eating anything at all.
