5 foods I like that you might not

Nov 12, 2014 06:00

1) Pickled herring.
2) Liverwurst.
3) Sardines. And anchovies.
4) Leftover sushi, or chinese/indian/ethiopian food for breakfast. Cold.
5) 85% dark chocolate.

Are any of these on your love/hate list? Do you have food preferences other people might think are strange? Curious minds want to know. :)

I like those as well, except for #2.

I also enjoy uni and mochi-several friends of mine find either of those rather squicky. Oh! And I also like the tiny crispy fish mentioned above-I see 'em a lot in Southeast Asian dishes, as well as Korean cuisine (yay banchan!). And shrimp chips.

I need to try out fresh durian, because I've liked dishes made with the fruit (pastries, cookies, ice cream).

I've taken a durian home and tried it. Honestly, I couldn't quite take it straight, but it made for a pretty good smoothie. I would have it again if it were prepared that way.

I've described the taste of the fresh stuff as "mango, pineapple, fried chicken, overcooked eggs."

Whole nations swear by it, though, so who am I to say.

I can't quite handle uni, though I think if I tried it enough times I could acclimate to it. I have the same trouble with it I have with truffles - there's something a bit too earthy/musty about them.

Mochi is delicious. I'm not sure if I've had shrimp chips.

Oh, I love truffles, of both the fungal and chocolate varieties. Although, yes, the former are quite strong, so it's easy to overdo them in a dish.

I should send you some shrimp chips. :)

I love all fungi but truffles. I have had dishes where truffles were used very sparingly, and I liked those. Again it's one of those things where if I ate it enough times I think I would acclimate. That's how I came to like tripe and mackerel.

Chocolate truffles are a whole different ball game. MMmmmm, chocolate truffles. At least dark chocolate truffles. Milk chocolate truffles have to have some additional flavor that I love for me to like them as well as I like dark chocolate truffles.

If you have spare shrimp chips I'll take them. Though I suspect I can find them in the market here, assuming I can sort them out based on the pictures on the package. :)
