random netflix customer experience

Netflix is now smart enough that if you have discs from a TV series in your dvd queue, and one of the dvds in the series isn't available right now, it jumps the entire series and goes to the first available item that is not part of the series.

Makes sense, and is much better customer service than The Old Days when they would send you the dvds of a TV series out of order, if that's how they came up, but I wasn't expecting to get a dvd from the 9th or 10th position in my queue. I usually only plan 4-5 dvds out.

To counter this service improvement, they have some items that have absurdly long waits. I've had The Bad and the Beautiful at the top of my queue for months now (since December or January, I think?), and not received it.

(Typing this made me wonder why it had been months, and after no love from the FAQs on their website, I called Netflix. Turns out the movie is out of print, they only own a few copies and there's no way to buy more. Harumph.)
