Someone from the League of Women Voters just called for Dad. I was a little bit mean.
I said Dad wasn't available. She said they'd try to reach him later. I said, "Not unless you have access to the afterlife, you won't. He passed away this week."
To her immense credit she immediately apologized, offered condolences on behalf of both herself & the League, told me how grateful they were for all Dad's support over the years, & promised to update the phone list so we would not continue to receive calls from that particular chapter. She also let me know that the state & local chapters keep separate lists, so she would not have a way to update those & that I might wish to contact them directly.
So kudos to the National branch of the League of Women Voters for handling an awkward situation with grace, intelligence, & compassion.
