two articles on how we build concepts in our brain

Jan 24, 2007 15:59

Nicely relevant to issues discussed in Stumbling on Happiness, this article discusses how, to envision the future, we go with what we already know - the past. Scientific American: Back to the Future: How the Brain "Sees" the Future. Whether imagining the future or recalling the past, the human mind calls on the same brain regions.

We learn through our dreams, even if we don't remember doing so: Scientific American: Tetris Dreams. How and when people see pieces from the computer game in their sleep tells of the role dreaming plays in learning.

(This one amuses me because I am very prone to dreaming about games.)
