Hot here today - mid 90s in the shade, maybe even higher. (That's 35° C, for those who prefer their degrees in Centigrade). 10:00 at night and the temperatures have finally dropped to the low 80s.
I seem to have adopted a new drink for hot days like this - apple cider** with a squeeze of lime, over lots of ice. When I want to punch it up a bit I add a splash of rum. Since I don't like things that are very sweet, I dilute the cider with either plain or fizzy water. It's a nice change from my usual choice of plain water.
Dinner tonight? Corkscrew pasta tossed with olive oil, parsley, tomato, chicken apple sausage, and both toasted walnuts & pine nuts. I seasoned with thyme, oregano, coarse ground black pepper, crushed jalapeno pepper flakes, and some salt. Pretty good for something I put together in under 20 minutes, after finding almost none of the original ingredients I wanted. And there are leftovers for lunch tomorrow!
Now I'm craving cookies, but I don't need the sugar, and it's too hot to bake, anyway.
