a very short review

Just finished reading Cheating at Canasta, by William Trevor. This collection of short stories ended up on my list because The New Yorker calls him "the greatest living writer of short stories in the English language." The New York Times also loves him.

I do not.

If you are curious, here are some authors whose short stories I love far more: Shalom Auslander, David Bezmozgis, William Faulkner, Mary Anne Mohanraj, Alice Munro, Julie Orringer, and Connie Willis.
