Dear XX,
I am writing to submit my resignation as the XX’s Program Assistant. The decision to accept a new position at XXX was a difficult one, after spending over two years developing relationships and growing my responsibility within this office. However, the following factors were integral to my decision:
1) The XX is unable to offer me substantial promise of a promotion, despite the fact that my responsibility and workload far exceeds my position description and has done so for the past eighteen months or more.
2) The new position offers a flexible schedule, a non-rush-hour commute, and an opportunity to be a significant part of a team-oriented office that is a global leader in its field.
3) I sense that this firm will be able to be more flexible and family-friendly when my husband and I decide to have children, and that I could likely keep this position while having children. UCF’s 8-5 hours are not conducive to this.
I am aware that the office is currently in a time of transition while looking for (the recently "resigned" secretary)'s replacement, and that many of my duties are unfamiliar to others in the office. Because of these things, I am willing to work 8-12 hours a week for XX and/or extend my resignation date and use my accumulated leave time to work around my new position for a few weeks to give you the change to interview, select, and train a candidate. This would have to be worked out with my new position, but I believe it is very possible.
The past two and a half years have been a true learning experience for me, and I have enjoyed many aspects of being part of the XX. I will remain a loyal supporter of the program and appreciate the opportunities it has afforded me.
My final day will be Friday, March 18, 2005.
Sincerely,
Kimberly Smith
