Avatar doing a clip show as a hilariously inaccurate play is one of the reasons I love this show.
I'm so happy that Toph was highly pleased that the actor portraying her was big buff manly man. Toph is just glad that they got a person of reasonable buttkicking calibre to play her. Sokka and Suki managed to be hilarious and adorable in their interactions during the entire episode. I feel like part of the reason Suki is so great (and great for Sokka) is that she can let herself get dragged along with Sokka's zany antics. She's a good girlfriend. Sokka and Suki's wonderful PDA was also a nice thing to see during the episode.
The play was hilariously bad in parts, and the effects were laughable for much of the play though they became very good later on despite the fact that the bending was done with paper ribbons. The actors actually turned out to be pretty decent at theatrical kung fu/acrobatics, too. Something I found very interesting about the play is that I felt like it had a decent amount of pro-Team Avatar subversiveness in it. The characters were caricatures of the actual people involved, but the audience is encouraged to empathize with them. Also, though there was a propaganda ending that was pro-Fire Nation I thought it seemed pretty tacked on. I wonder about the motives of the people who made the play.
I liked the Kataang interaction in the episode. I think Aang is really worried about the fact that he might die soon, so that's why he was being a bit pushy with Katara. I think Katara just needs time, and Aang is worried that they don't have any time left. Still, kissing Katara just after she confessed to be confused as to her feelings for Aang was dumb, as Aang found out after Katara reacted negatively to the kiss. I'm really looking forward to how this plot thread is resolved in the series finale.
