Fire and resulting homelessness be damned! Work on the Public Domain album continues!
Sonic wizard Adam Rabin has been working on the tracks we've recorded, and everything's coming out awesome. Many tracks are in a state of "we'll make minor fixes when we sort out the final song order."
Looking Back - The sound is based on my piano and vocal demo, but mix in marimba and guitar noises and you've got a left-of-center masterpiece.
Katey And Her Kodak - This is the breakout hit. I went in with a punk/industrial demo, we came out with a sort of mashup of Lou Reed, The Cars, Sparks and probably some Flock Of Seagulls just to throw another name in there.
Good-Bye - Quiet piece. A perfect opener.
The Song Of The Guaranteed Wage - One of my favourites. I had second thoughts about using it (we recorded it as guitar and voice) but Adam added piano and cello and it is the best song you will ever hear in your miserable life.
That leaves Rock Me To Sleep Mother as the last song we completely redid this Summer (though we borrowed bits from my demo). Adam is understandably wary of working on this track because it is so dangerous. It melted the Crackerbox DeathMatch server back in the day.
The rest of the album will be comprised of songs I had previously recorded but Adam will remix or add more parts to. These include The First Of April, Hey Rube!, Jolly Dog's Polka, Neal's Maggot, and If All The World Were Paper among others. There Were Three Crows is a song Adam and I recorded a long time ago and was released on a Mailbox compilation, but it was always destined to be a Public Domain entry.
I know everybody's going to love the album when it is finished. So be sure to thank Adam for his work. I had the easy job of writing the songs, but he has to make them sound good.
