STAR WARS REBELS is the very definition of a mixed bag, but when it is good, it is very good. No surprise then, that its best episode yet brought in no other than that long sufferer-of-fools, Wilhuff Tarkin. I have a fondness for Tarkin-he’s by far the best villain in the STAR WARS universe. Once the face of evil of the galaxy was no longer a man would torture a young woman (and blow-up a planet!) with the same bored disdain one might give a pile of paperwork, the movies lost something.
His appearance on REBELS is a welcome one, coming as he did to see why this group of Empire commanders are so incompetent. The Inquisitor, sadly, has felt the sting of being an antagonist on a serial television show the most; introduced as a credible threat, he’s had the heroes slip through his fingers too many times to be taken seriously anymore. Perhaps he got the flu? No matter. Tarkin is on the case. They didn’t make him Grand Moff for nothing.
