I've been spamming alot recently. That'll probably stop with this, because now I have to do real work. (My gradebook is staring angrily at me.)

Title: The Party
Rating: G (holy crap!)
Pairings: Biro/Zelenka, implied Dex/McKay, implied Kusanagi Miko/Sheppard,
Warnings: Unbetaed.
Summary: Weir watches her people.

Note: This was inspired by a comment I came across while reading all the fic on kavtolanon so it's dedicated to the lovely ladies and gentlemen of that comm.

The Athosians had invited the entire city of Atlantis to the mainland in order to celebrate their version of Thanksgiving. The stressed and exhausted members of the expedition had agreed almost instantly. There was a skeleton crew left in the city, but everyone else had come over on Air Puddlejumper.

Elizabeth Weir walked through the site of the party and watched the members of her staff enjoy themselves. Teyla and Halling were trying to teach the odd pair of Kusanagi Miko and John Sheppard how to do an Athosian dance. Teyla and Halling were making it look effortlessly graceful; Sheppard was making it look like someone had stuffed a rabid squirrel down his pants and Kusanagi was trying to help him get it out. Weir watched them in amusement for a while before moving on.

Ronon Dex and Rodney McKay were stationed next to the buffet eating everything that wasn't bolted down. McKay was trying to talk to Dex around the massive amounts of food in his mouth, but it was unlikely either man could figure out what he was saying. Weir ventured closer in the hopes of grabbing some of the Athosians' homemade punch, but she was distracted by the sight of Radek Zelenka and Miriam Biro walking up hand-in-hand. She never would've thought that the two of them would be friends, let alone lovers. Weir watched as Zelenka ladelled out punch for his date and decided she really wanted a glass. The engineer smiled at the leader before giving her his cup and turning to Biro.

“I'm very happy that we've gotten this opportunity,” the doctor said. “I've been so busy lately that I've not seen anyone who wasn't a nurse, a patient, or a mouse.” Zelenka slipped his arm around her waist as she continued. “And I thought I was going to drown under all the paperwork I have to complete. I never realised how much work this was going to be.”

Weir wondered why Biro was suddenly swamped with work before a sharp stab of memory pierced her heart: Carson. She nodded to the happy couple and wandered off. Weir had been repressing the memory of the indignity of what had happened to him. Being reminded of it so suddenly was like being slapped in the face. She retreated from the party in hopes of being able to think in peace.

However, she soon heard noises coming from the forest in front of her. Weir may not have been a scientist, but she could be just as curious as they were. She followed the noises into a large clearing which had something not dissimilar to a basketball goal set up at the far corner. Weir ducked back into the tree line and watched something that should could never have foreseen. Kavanagh was playing with children.

The Athosian children had something that was similar to a basketball that they were attempting to dribble. Kavanagh was in the midst of the swarm, acting as unofficial referee and coach. He was laughing and there was a twinkle in his eyes. Weir had never seen him like this and for a brief moment, he looked beautiful. Then, Jinto plowed into him, knocking the man over. Weir gasped and put her hand to her mouth, waiting for the eruption she knew was going to come.

Kavanagh surged to his feet and grabbed the boy about the shoulders.

“Are you okay?” he asked, staring into Jinto's eyes. The boy nodded and Kavanagh wrapped him up in a hug. “Be careful! I'd hate for you to get hurt. Because then I'd have to fix you and I'm here so I don't have to work.”

“I'll be careful,” Jinto replied, giving an easy shrug that he had obviously learned from Sheppard. From where she was watching, Weir's heart began to quiet down as the game was started again. She watched Kavanagh glide gracefully around the “court” as if he belonged there. As the herd of kids stampeded around the goal, the scientist lifted one of the smaller children into the air so he could slam dunk the ball. Cheers rang in her ears as Weir headed back toward the main party.

When she emerged from the woods, Teyla and Halling as well as a few other Athosian couples were performing the dance from earlier. It was obvious that they had given up on trying to teach John and Miko since the Earth couple was bopping around exheberently on the outskirts of the group.

Weir gazed across the expanse and watched her people enjoy themselves as the shouts of children grew louder. The kids burst out of the forest and surged around her like a tide. The one Kavanagh had lifted earlier ran into her and fell to the ground.

Weir reached down to grab him, but Kavanagh was there to lift him to his feet. “What do we say?” the man asked.

“Sorry, Weir Emmagan,” the little boy replied from behind huge eyelashes that did nothing to hide his enormous blue eyes. Then, she was gone in the sea of people. Kavanagh nodded to the leader and walked out into the happy crowd.

Elizabeth watched her people and smiled.
