Grumpy Post about Fictional Characters

I'm trying to write the next part of "Master Plan" a.k.a. Lorne and Kav are dating, Kav is completely oblivious to this fact.

LeBeau has come up with a legitimately good plan (I KNOW!), and they're all in Dave Parrish's quarters. Lorne is being the sweetest boyfriend ever; Beau has hit on everybody at least once. I know what's supposed to happen next. (After the dinner party, Kav mentions the fact that everybody was in couples. Lorne takes that as his cue to kiss Kav. Kav decides everybody's been playing a particularly cruel joke on him, punches Lorne, and takes off. Beau finds out Kav punched Lorne and proceeds to threaten him without knowing the rest of the details. (He has to stand on a chair to get into Kavanagh's face!) Sheppard and McKay have to get involved. Lorne tries to convince Kav that it's not a trick. Kav demands to be properly wooed. Story ends.)

But I CAN'T GET THE DINNER PARTY TO END.

Every time I think, "Awesome. This is a good place to cut to after dinner." LeBeau hits on somebody or makes a joke or tries to stick his tongue down Chuck's throat. Or Cadman says something snarky or Parrish has to preen about how fantastic his cooking is or Chuck is adorable. OR LORNE STARTS COMPLAINING IN HIS HEAD ABOUT HOW DINNER JUST WON'T END.

Bah. It's like I have the opposite of Writer's Block; Writer's Sphere or something. It's annoying, and I can't figure out how to get around it.

And to make matters worse, the part after the dinner party is finished already...
