I had a conversation with a student today that I think everybody needs to have more often.

That is so wonderfully true. And if you can help create an environment where students feel that they, individually, matter, then you're worth it as much as any other member of staff.

My favourite thing is when a student says, "You really helped me today." and that happened twice today! (And on Monday, one of them hugged me and another gave me a bag of crisps. I really have the best students.)

I just have to occasionally remind myself that I *am* helping.

It did get through to the student, surprisingly. He needed extra time for his quiz, and he told me so instead of just turning in his paper before he was finished.
