Post!

Well I black beltified there on sunday. It was certainly an experience. I may have passed since I was no worse than anyone else, so we shall find out in time! Ms. Fahy said Master Darcy might have results by christmas. Now that would be a fucking deadly christmas present.
They had 2 groups of high reds going for black, and usually they alternate us on the floor for periods of 20 minutes or so, that way you're not sitting around for ages, you get a breather etc. But we were right up there for about an hour or so, went through sparring techniques, traditional, the hyung, theory, self defence (which was just ridiculous) and one step sparring. No break. The we sat arpund for about 2 hours while the other red belts did their stuff, then the first-degree black belts, then we sparred which took all of 2 minutes. So a bit of a waste of time.
I can honestly say that if I get it, I will be prouder of myself then I ever have been for anything before in my whole entire life. Which in fairness isn't that long, but still. It would be something alright.

I'm very glad this torturous week is drawing to a close. It's been quite hellish. I've developed this weird habit of rubbing my hands together when I'm trying to think, and now my hands are all raw and messed up. Also my horrible skin picking habit has been exacerbated and I have scars that may never heal! But soon it will be OVER. And I will not type about exams because I see no damn point. I don't think I like my course so much but maybe, justy maybe, results will cheer me up, or I'll learn something from them, or SOMETIHNG. Just please don't let me have failed any modules...

In other news, I am looking forward tot his friday. Anyone who wants to see what a genuinely over-the-moon person looks like, find me at about... three or four in the afternoon, the day after tomorrow, and you will see the dictionary definition of happy prancing out of the RDS singing and smiling and hugging strangers. And that someone will be me! And I tihnk the exam might actually go well seeing as how its my favourite module... ah basic mammalian structure! While we're at it, I'm posting a tribute to George Hilton, the sweetest kindest nicest funniest man alive, and if he was fifty years younger, I so would. This is why he's great:

From zygote to blastocyst
A poem
(still in its development stage)‏
by
George Hilton
2007

Two haploid gametes form a zygote
A Greek term for two joining cells
When the zygote starts cleaving
Blastomeres start appearing
And a morula forms in three days
The morula soon acquires spaces
And given the name blastocyst
It’s disc manufactures
It’s trophoblast anchors
When the covering zona is lost

And thats nothing compared to his muscle rap:

Tell me what you want, what you really really want
Tell me what you want what you really really want

A mesodermal story, to you I wish to tell
Concerning a contractile skeletal muscle cell

The fibres elongated, cross-striated too
Multinucleated, what more can it do.

It's centimetre long, micrometre wide
That's why you'll never see it all on a microscope slide

A smooth muscle cell doesn't look like this
It's sarcolemma not as clear, the cell looks like a fish

Its single central nucleus is useful as a test
Twisted in contraction, cigar-shaped when at rest

Intercalated discs, found only in the heart
join the cells together so they'll never come apart

These little points, I gladly offer you
Remember you may see them as a christmas MCQ

The moral of the story is that when you come to class
its not the answers thats important but the questions that you ask.

Why can't everyone lecture through poetry and song... Shadow puppets may also work...
We love you George!
