Clark had come home to Smallville to visit his mother, who was back to living in the old farmhouse now that her time in the Senate was up. He was just walking to the door when he heard something crunch under his foot.
It was Chloe's phone, or what was left of it. The screen was cracked and some buttons were missing, but he knew it was hers.
That was when he realized...it had been ten years. Ten years ago she had left with the Doctor, promising to return eighty days later. She hadn't. Ten years and he hadn't seen her.
His heart ached as he stared down at that phone. He would give anything to see her again, and even though this reminder of her made the ache even worse, it gave him hope that she was still out there somewhere. Her phone made it back to him. Maybe she would, too.
