Nostalgia Versus Reality...
Have you ever kept a vague, half-remembered memory of a song or a film or a TV programme in your head since your childhood? Have you ever then sought that memory out on CD or DVD?
Occasionally, there’ll be something you remember seeing from long, long ago which you follow up on a whim, and it turns out to be as good as, or perhaps even better than, you remember it. There are a handful of old television shows now out on DVD which have the ability to simply make you go ‘wow’ - that make you wonder why they don’t still make programmes like that any more.
Has a show ever really impressed you with its script or acting or direction and made you remember why you enjoyed watching it in the first place? Has a show ever lurked in the depths of your memory for years until you see it again in the cold light of 2010 and realise that it’s an underrated classic of its genre? Has an old show ever made you want to recommend it to your friends, because it’s simply that good? If so...
