I realized my kid might have some musical talent when he was younger and he could listen to a song on the radio just once, twice, maybe three times and sing it all the way through.....but tonight he just blew me away. He began playing the trumpet at the end of last year and is really bad at it. He even quit for awhile. Not unexpected from an 11 year old I guess. No patience, no focus. He wanted to play the drums but there wasn't a spot for him (ah...small miracles). I got him a keyboard in hope he might practice a little and perhaps gain more interest in music. He has a hearing loss so I'm not expecting he'll become any great musician but I felt that it would be just a good experience for him. He took to it pretty quick and has been pecking out bits and pieces of the basic happy birthday and jingle bells, etc.. But tonight I was sitting here on the computer and he was downstairs goofing around with the keyboard. I was playing the instrumental version of Linkin Park's, Numb....and from up the stairs comes none other then the beginning of the song, then it trailed off and sounded, well, awful....so I play it again...and as it finished....up comes more of the song. I played it 5 or 6 times and by the end of the song he played the entire song back to me. So I go downstairs and give him "the look"....the one with the raised eyebrow, and he says "What? I can't help it, songs get stuck in my head". I'm thinkin maybe I ought to get him a teacher.
