Peter first suggested it when I complained that MS Outlook 2003 kept crashing on my computer and had some very odd errors with many messages doubled up. Mike joked about it last night and even Julian remarked that he was disappointed from his first look at it many months ago. I have decided to take the plunge and try it myself.
Mozilla Thunderbird is now the e-mail client on my laptop!
The software doesnt pretend to be anything more than a robust, powerful e-mail client. I am impressed with how quick and painless the transition was with the automatic import wizard. Ok, a minor cheat at the start by my opting to try using an MS Outlook friendly theme.
I am using the Windows OS version 1.0.6 on my laptop. I have yet to find or do something that I couldn't manage before. The no-nonsense interface is similar to Mozilla Firefox and includes an RSS and news reader. Graciously, it doesn't come bundled with bloated and rarely used addons. I dont need calendar software as I use the desktop provided with my Palm Pilot PDA. On reflection, with some minor tweaks to the profile location, it shouldnt take too much to get this running over our school network, hmm.
This open source software is certainly something that I will recommend to my friends.
