Blue Tongue Lizard

Originally uploaded by plakboek Lizard discovered walking through the backyard last year. This is the largest member of the skink family and is very well known for its long, bright blue tongue. Baby blue-tongues are born fully formed and do not hatch from eggs. They can live for more than 20 years, reaching over 50cm in length. They are native to Australia.

Now, at first I thought that this was an Eastern Blue-Tongued Lizard (Tiliqua Scincoides) but a couple of wiser readers have already pointed out that it is a "Blotched" or a "Blotchie" Blue Tongue (Tiliqua Nigrolutea). I now stand corrected. :-)
