We have an huge problem here with the Murray river that flows over 2500 km across Australia. Last year my kids jumped over the start of a trickling creek in the Australian Alps. Now there is not enough water now flowing downstream to keep the mouth of the river open to the sea. The prediction is that the mouth of this mighty river will close. This will not be the first time, in 1981 they had to cut a channel to the sea with some bulldozers. Here are some pictures from an
ABC news story that illustrate this closure. It is a very complex issue balancing the water needs of people, farmers, dying trees and waterlands.
