Easter Monday

I am teaching my students a unit about temperature by building upon their experiences and memories of the weather but sometimes the contrast with my own childhood memories is quite different. Today, my family is playing indoors on a cold Easter Monday, a warm fire cracking in the combustion stove in the middle of the lounge room. I read the following Moodle post by a student on my laptop as I flicked over to mark some in-line assignments.
"The coldest day of my life: In my life i have lived in cold weather since the day i was born, but the day i will never forget was when i was 13yrs old and it was in winter. The electricity had went out and it was as cold as the Antactica. You woludn't leave the blankets because that the only warmest sourse in the house. There were no heaters nor hot water so i had to have a cold shower.wide eyes. After the shower i didn't want to be sent to do some chores so i went off straight to bed so nonne could distract me.Unfortunately i was sent to wash the dishes outside in the cold. It was fair because i had woke up late and everyone had done their chore before it got so cold. You will never believe what i did after that, iw ent straith for a shower because after being touching cold water for a long time it wasn't cold anymore, it was getting warmer. But as a result i got a cold for almost a week.big grin."
