The Age newspaper published an interesting technology article "
Keep training or you might just run off the rails". This reported that technology now surpasses agriculture, forestry and fishing, defence and education in terms of contribution to the Australian economy. There is some interest in the significant contribution towards this gain by small, thriving technology companies with older workers who have extended their working lives.
The article goes on to indicate that mature Australian workers can stay engaged and contribute in the workforce if there was an investment in professional development. On average in Australia today, only one to five days professional development is undertaken by Information Technology workers. This compares with the 15 to 20 days provided in India.
