Then last night I realized we only have one week to go and January's over. Where were all my days? And if what my friend says is true, then we have exactly eleven months to prepare for the end of the world. And said friend insists the world will end in a Karaoke Apocalypse. So each of us must be ready with our lighters and our power ballads. I have one in Filipino in case the tribunal on Judgment Day asks for something native. Settling for one in English is more difficult.
Some friends have already taken the following from my list:
- "Love Hurts" by Nazareth
- "I Want to Know What Love Is" by Foreigner
- "Total Eclipse of the Heart" by Bonnie Tyler
- "Don't Stop Believin'" by Journey
- "I'd Do Anything for Love (but I Won't Do That)" by Meatloaf
- "It Must Have Been Love But It's Over Now" by Roxette
The only item remaining is "Bed of Roses" by Bon Jovi. Which I don't mind. Really. Because I've been wanting to try
With an ironclad fist I wake up and french kiss the morning
While some marching band keeps its own beat in my head
Except that in my head, someone keeps beaming the entire song "Ocean Deep" by Cliff Richard. It's not even a power ballad. But I can't shake off a line like: "A little kindness in the night."
And indeed "I'm so afraid to show my feelings / I have sailed a million ceilings / Solitary room". My how these resonate. Really. Yah.
