Social bonds and trust will be tested as Singapore battles its worst recession. But new values, such as thrift and volunteerism, could emerge.

Blue- and white-collar workers aside, sociologists pinpoint two other vulnerable groups.
The first are fresh or recent graduates who have trouble finding jobs and have to settle for lower salaries than expected.
'Problems may arise when younger Singaporeans, who have been told hard work and good grades would be rewarded with a good life, do not think they are getting their dues,' says Dr Terence Chong of the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies.
