Task 2

A person's worth nowadays seems to be judged according to social status and material possessions. Old-fashioned values, such as honour, kindness and trust, no longer seem important.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Write at least 250 words.

The stature of the position and the richness of a man dictates how important he is in the society. If a man has gold, then he has earned a step higher of this worth than the others. If a man has been given a respected and significant position, then he has added another step of worth. A combination of the two is what makes a man's worth.

In contrast from what happened in the olden times, values such as honor, kindness and trust are the criteria of a man's worth. A man is given honor if his actions and opinions are correct and abide within the rules written by the community. A man is marked with kindness if he is generous and thinks of others instead of himself. A man is given trust if he is honest. If the three values is manifested by one man, then he earns the respect.

If a man's worth is based on his social status and material possessions, what can be said about the believers of the idea? In my opinion, these people shows immaturity. A man's social status does not dictate his worth if he has no honor. In my country where we are led by corrupt government officials, these people of high position in the government are not given honor by the countrymen as expected by the one who sits on it. Our officials abuse their seat power by making business deals only with their favorite people, coercing other people to perform deceitful actions and stealing money of our country. No matter how publicized their wrongdoings are, my countrymen continuous to believe them, to trust them and will probably vote for them in the next elections.

I agree that old-fashioned values are not as important than before. A person may be honorable, kind and trusted but will be never be held as high regard from other people. People see the worth of another person based on the benefits a man can get. A person may hold good values but without seeing the advantage of his company may seems like a waste of time.
We must change our perception to a person's worth. We must honor the true values of what makes a man's worth. Social status and material possessions are unsophisticated. Honor, kindness and trust are the benchmark of a man's worth.
