My Attempt At Trying To Justify The War In Iraq, With Myself?

Jan 30, 2005 11:32

I'm not in Iraq. I don't know all the politics that have to do with everything, but I really don't see the pretty picture of "democracy" as W. is trying to paint. I don't like that we are in iraq because they need democracy. We are in Iraq trying to give them democracy, but we can't figure out our own elections or social security for old people or free lunch programs for little kids, WTF? Year before las several people involved with the government said on TV, (I know because I watched it) that there were bunkers producing weapons of mass destructions and poisonous gas and so on AND scared me into believing it because of some little yellow triangles and red circles. Have we found any of that? Have we found any trace of that? I think NOT! Sure Saddam might be a crazy man, he might be a crazy man that at one time tried to kill Bush Sr. But really, is it really worth over 1,000 young men? One lousy president, who didn't get re-elected (I vaguely remember that, but my mom voted for him and when he didn't win I knew I liked Clintion, even at four I was smart!) I'm not going to talk about the oil, but I could. These elections are supposed to prove that the people of Iraq want democracy, need democracy, even fiend democracy. But from what I hear from a variety of new sources (by "varitey" I mean all Yahoo news and random blogs I read, Republican included) every day there's another car bomb, another helicopter down, another number just like the day before that will be forgotten tomorrow when another number shows up, about the soldiers and innocent killed. No one really likes looking at the numbers anymore, I know I don't. I used to be horrified every day I'd read 19 killed in Baghdad, 22 killed in helicopter crash...but more recently it doesn't affect me anymore. That bothers me. I'm becoming numb to the casualties of war. Back to my point about the elections, I don't like that we're in Iraq, and I believe it's non-sense to try to solve someone's problems when you've got problems of your own, but I woke up this morning and thought about it, in the beginning of the US, way back in the first couple of elections, I bet there were attacks on the polling places and public officials, and everything worked our alright for us, so why doubt it so much for Iraq? That's about all the thought I've put into it, but it's a start. I don't like the war and believe it's a costly burden on the US, and I still detest W. with every ounce of my being, but being an optimist I did want to find the up side to this war, maybe one day I'll take a vacation in the Tigris River or send my kids to the Persian Gulf for spring break, who knows?
