It's 4 am. I've been trying to sleep for about a half hour and it isn't working. The best idea I managed to come up with was updating my journal in the dark. How swell.
So, a brief review of yesterday's Unicorn's concert. It was another show at the stick which is the best place to see shows ever. I went with Andrew who is the best person to see shows with ever.
The scenster crowd was out in full for the show and that was probably the most exciting part. Parker was there and it was the first time I'd seen him in ages. He'd cut his hair short and we didn't recognize him for awhile. He came and talked to us for a bit, mostly about music and Andrew being a pretentious fuck. Then he went off to see some other people because he pretty much knew everyone there. He's that amazing.
The first band to play were The Ponies. They were from Chicago and were pretty awful. Then the set change took a couple months and Beans took the stage. Beans was a black guy that rapped about various things. I'm not sure what they were about really. There was an anti-drug rhyme which lost all credibility as he referred to coke as "booger-sugar" multiple times.
Then The Unicorns played the second or third best live show I have seen thus far. Might have been better than Death Cab but I think Ted Leo is still tops. There onstage banter was better than pretty much anyone else I've ever seen with the exception of Five Iron. Set sounded tight musically and vocally. No major complaints.
Cursive shirt man was there and Gayle should have been as well. He actually has a band and they were playing downstairs after the show. He almost killed a couple of people. Just like old times. Besides Cursive shirt man, there was also Ellen. Um...witty comment.
The ride home after the show was probably more interesting than the actual show itself. Andrew continued the tradition of driving too fast and doing weird things. Thankfully this time it wasn't raining and proved to be amusing. I don't think I laughed quite as hard as when Andrew decided to toss an empty Altoids box out the window and it came back and landed on the hood of his car where it stayed for the rest of the ride home. Even after multiple attempts to make it fall via slamming on the brakes and windshield wipers.
Also, it should be known that using the word "tats" makes just about any sentence infinitely funnier.
So, tonight Eric and I had a mini-party. We played Super Smash Brothers Melee and remembered why we stopped playing the game in the first place (I always win). Because of this, I think I might buy an X-Box so that I can play X-Box Live games, furthering the decline in my productivity. Scott got a subscription to Live for his birthday and Stank says he will soon be getting the Box and the Live for his birthday. So, multiple friends and multiplayer games. Sounds like a winning combination to Paul.
Does anyone else miss Nathan Stachel?
Tonight also proved interesting when Gayle showed me some of her stalking techniques. I didn't find the person I was initially looking for, but I did manage to stumble across an old acquaintance's LJ and it is a bit creepy. I'm learning details about this person's life that I probably shouldn't be reading. But it's so much fun!
Oh, and the new Good Life EP is shaping up to be awesome if this song is any indication. I pre-ordered my copy today and I would advise you to do the same.
I'm still not tired.
