I just posted this on a messageboard in reply to someone's question about how much trouble he has with anesthesia at the dentist office. I just wanted to copy it here to show you people the shit i have to go through when i need dental work:

I have a very difficult mouth to anesthetise. I prefer to take Nitrous Oxide gas while i'm in the chair, embarassingly enough, because i get SO nervous and jumpy, and sometimes, the pain i feel is worsened by my nerves/imagination.
My dentist sometimes has to use up to 5 shots of novicaine, but at some point in the past couple of years, he used a new 'tactic', which i believe involves inserting the needle into my jaw somehow. All i know for certain is that it hurts WAY more, feels like he's sticking a needle in my nose, but it sure works. It numbs me for longer, too. I think he usually needs to use this technique on my molars.
I remember what it is! He has to anesthetise the main nerve in my jaw, instead of simply the smaller nerves going to each tooth. That's why he has to go so deep, and it hurts so much, but works so well and for so long.

I've tried my best to do something close to meditation in the dentist's chair, but i'm just too nervous.

This is why i HATE going to the dentist.
